How would you feel if you see a song or a few of your songs (not your entire album) up for download online?

I'm thinking that if its a "myspace rapper" he'd be happy that someone is actually listening/feeling his music. If its its an upcoming artist who isn't well known yet, I'm guessing he'd be happy with some more promotion. If it's a bigger artist, I think he'd be upset cuz people who downloaded it for free may have bought the songs on itunes or something if they didn't see it up for download for free somewhere.

Thats just what I think...anyone in the industry lemme know your perspective on this. I'm asking cuz I got my little Bay Area hip hop blog and I upload new singles and a few songs from many new Bay Area albums when they're released.

Also, if any rappers want their music featured on my site get at me at [email protected]. Quality shit only.

I'm the same way, if I see somone listen'n to my shit I'm happy.

Money isn't in music anymore, and my money motivated hustle has changed. I still rap, but not with the goal to get rich, more just for respect and exposure.

What about people who are actually trying to make a lot of money from rap??
I think they're fuckin up right there. One of the best sayings I ever heard was "make money to make music, dont make music to make money". If you work hard at achieving your goals, and you can end up living off of your dream than that should be the icing on tha cake.

sooner or later new technology will come out that'll make it hard to get free music, until then, musicians will make their living off of concert money, dealing drugs, or getting a day job. personally, i'd be bittersweet about someone downloading my shit, i'd be honered that they'd wanna listen to it, but bummed out that it's getting less and less likely that someone can follow their dreams and live comfortable from it.

Yea you can't stop the downloading. When our album hit it was on over 30 torrent sites and we had hundreds and hundreds of DL's off of mp3 sites but we aint trippin since that was our first album. There isn't a way to stop it so I will go with what the other cat said "make money to make music" I make music because its my passion, strait up

man.... artist & people can moan and bitch all they want but this shit was going on back when tapes where being sold! I never once bought a tape......used to go to my boyees house and have them record me one! LOLOLOLOL now its just turned digital!

Ive always uploaded all our albums! the way i see it, its better to be me uploading it then some other cat doing it! People are also tired of garbage ass artists releasing BOO BOO so they rather listen before buying....nothing wrong with that!

its just a revolving door...once they figure out how to stop the illegal downloading (cant see it happening) people will find another way of doing it!

i do appriciate people listening to my music , but at the same time , im promoting new projects and clearly have the links to purchase the shit..i dunno man.. its a double edge sword
Call it free promotion...If enough people hear it you're gonna' make some money...Whether it be shows or something else....It's all about captivating the audience...

I'm with you on that...it is fucked up. But at the same time...a lot of the albums I buy...I buy them cuz I heard the album first and liked it a lot and wouldn't have bought them without listening first....and them 30 second clips that some sites have don't do enough. Too bad hella people don't think like that and don't spend any money on music.

i agree with this. sometimes you can't get to everybody, a the majority just dont buy anything at all. so you gotta do what you gotta do and bite the bullet on some sells. Everybody will listen if itz for free.
