I was reading a couple of posts recently and I heard a couple people evaluate the artist based on his ability to used "MULTI-SYLABIC" words. Maaaaaaaan... is that what it's come to nowdays.
Is this all a tongue twistn' contest. Let me weigh in on this.
Rap music comes from the heart. Most of the shit that's out here today doesn't come from the heart. I don't care if its gangster, fly, or whatever. There are two kinds of rap music: serious or lighthearted.
Seems like people are getting the two confused. The frustration I have is that hardcore rap is by nature serious. Yet, people seem to put more emphasis on the syllables, the tongue twistin, and the ability to groan like DMX...than they go the CONTENT.
If you wanna know why Eminem is sellin millions of units. Well, in my opinion its two reasons. 1) Dre is still dre. But remember every rapper Dre pushes doesn't go gold.
2) he is talkin about some real shit. HIS real shit. You ask kids, lil black kids in the deep east and they all say the same thing, "That white boy be talkin about some real shit." It still comes down to that. He is not talkin about anybody else's life, he is one of the few "rappers" who are still rappers and not imitation, wannabe, caricatures of a by-gone era.
Its almost like some rappers are scared to talk about what they know. I don't know what it is, but it gets old real quick. It is takin a WHITE BOY to bitch slap every other rapper on the west coast for a lot of rappers to realize that have to keep it real. Real to their own experiences. Its th onyl way people will relate to what you are saying.
There was one guy on HERE, forget the name, who had a song about his baby momma or somethin and it was from the heart. I think he was talkin about how he didnt want to lose her. I give that a 10. I didn't care for the music, but take those lyrics into a great producer and...SOMEBODY out there will feel it and maybe buy it. But that is the exception.
Multisyllables!!! Are you kidding me. Fuckin the Kings English makes you a raw rapper? Throw all this out the window if it's in the trunk. If the beat is knockin, then it might sell anyway... but how many studios are really making mobb beats anymore...
Its hella lyrical gymnists out there..... but not many rappers.
(damn, sccness is hella cool. Where else can you talk about shit like this.)
