One of the main reasons that MAJOR Labels don't look at Bay Area artists for artists contracts is because they lack CHARISMA (plus most are hella ugly).
Look at the artists from the Bay Area that really, really, really made it and they all had charisma.
Hammer, say what you want about him but he was a "GOLD MINE" for his label and they say that potential and that is why they signed him. He was great in interviews and spoke intelligent, he had a great stage show and was marketable.
2pac, besides being the Worlds Greatest song writer/lyricist, 2pac had charisma, he was extremely intelligent and BOOK smart, he was great in interviews, he was very accessable to his fans and his style and good looks made him marketable.
Digital Underground, they made great and very marketable music and they truly new how to soundscape and album, but Plain & Simple they got their deal because of the Shock G as Humpty Hump "GIMMICK". Without that "GIMMICK" they wouldn't of got the Marketing Dollars they needed to get those videos shot and the video PAYOLLA needed to get them aired on MTV.
Too $hort, Even though $hort is ugly and can't be used as a marketable spokesman, $horts' lyrics have that shock value and he came out in a time when NO ONE in California was talking in the manner that he was. Look at the success of "nasty" artists from that same era like Luke and his 2 Live Crew, they all had extreme success. Too $hort has a Set-In-Stone fanbase that isn't going anywhere! He is the KING of the Bay Area.
E-40, he is rich for the rest of his life off of his drive to hustle, he doesn't need a higher level of success or to rework his contract, E-40 is in a PERFECT place within this industry for the type of artist he is and should be happy with being UNIQUE, having PLAQUES and being WEALTHY!
Mac Mall is lacking the charisma and look, The Luniz gave it a shot, 3xKrazy should be Super Stars but their business wasn't right and it doesn't make sense that they aren't Super Stars cause Angerman could be a Super Star all alone, Cellski doesn't have the look at all, San Quinn doesn't have the charisma or the look, Messy Marv has the charisma but doesn't have the look, A-Wax doesn't have the look or the uptempo Radio/Video songs.
So who do we have in the Bay Area with the CHARISMA, Intelligence, and Look to gain the attention of a MAJOR? Do we have another 2pac? Do we have an Eminem or a Nelly that the Majors will sign based on Marketability alone?
Major Labels "ONLY" care about "MONEY" and if your CHARISMA, Look, Intelligence and "then" music can make them "MONEY". Can yours?

I can't wait to see the thoughts of Chuck/Done Deal Entertainment, Cellski, C-Bo/West Coast Mafia Entertainment, and Robb/Killa Valley Entertainment on this subject and matter.

The point of the post was to try to help Bay Area artists and Independent Labels see what they are missing. I want the Bay Area to succeed, we gotta succeed!

I understand your post 92live, 'cause to a certain extent you are right, but... Have you spent time with these cats that you claim don't have the charisma to succeed? What do you base your opinions on?

People might have said the same shit about Biggie before he blew up. Uglier than shit. Maybe he had major charisma, maybe he didn't. Maybe he was just dope.

Yeah, Doxx I have seen or came incontact with most at singings and funtuctions that they have held. I am a big fan of Bay Area rap (the best music on the market) and most are missing that CHARISMA of the artists on Major Labels that I have came incontact with, but alot of that might have to do with the fact that Major Label artists have Publicists and Coaches that help them with their public speaking and help them out with there personality when dealing with the public.

I agree with you on most of your post about why certain Bay artist that have got signed your reasons were pretty much on point. Here is where i disagree
Short is a legend in the Bay and that will be forever no discredit there but KINGS or rotated and I feel it differs from individual to individual, some might base it on sales, some might base it on who the streets feel, some might base it on poularity ive heard it all. If you base it on sales Short last couple albums didnt do well in the bay at all one of them scanned 3,500 in Oakland-SF-San Jose, when Short usually scans over 20,000 here that a big decrease (especially for home) It could be a number of things Jive poor promoting, Shorts relocation alot of young cats tend to forget about rappers who they dont see or hear im speaking on Bay area cats only. example 40 on the other hand continues to do big #'s here cuz he is all over the radio and people are able to see him or atleast here about him shooting a video in the Yay.
As for your thoughts about Quinn, have you seen a show? I really doubt it cuz you spoke on his charisma, Russell Simmons is on video tape talking about Quinn Charisma, he personally flew Quinn out to New York to perform in the middle of Time Square to say a rap about 911 last October. And there are about 5 deals on the table for us right now no joke and there has been a few turned down in the past when the independent game was doing alot better. Also what do you do? Are you in the business? What gave you the authority to speak on people careers? Everybody is intitled to their Opinion but you need to state that thats just what your post is YOUR OPINION, cuz unless you work for a Major as an A&R, then How The Fuck do you know? Fuck what you heard, and if you live anywhere in The Bay ask around who they feel got it and who dont, Universal Gave us alot of money for 4 songs last year and we didnt like their deal its all documented if you think i have a reason to lie, I'm not going to speak on other rappers from here and why they dont have deals or How they look. Im just going to tell you the facts about Quinn & Done Deal Without putting all our business out there.

Image does work. Look at Nelly. Females buy his stuff by the boat load... It's not all looks, but personality plays a very big role in marketability as well. As to Biggie, he filled a market void left by Barry White as the lovable, smooth fat guy. The point is, it works well to be able to fit into a well established marketing niche. Talent and hard work certainly help, but they can't do it alone.

I don't buy that correlation because the fan bases are completely different. Sure there's bound to be some overlap, but their fan bases are apples and oranges.

And Chuck is right about Quinn. Dude definitely has the charisma and presence to be a star.

No lady Tragik look at my post i said I want to know cuz I NEVER SEEN A MAN JUDGE ANOTHER MAN LOOKS,
and 92alive since you put Wendy info up i assume you know her you can ask if she tried to work out a Quinn contract but was caught up in a cash money lawsuit, and what do those people have to do with you??
And looks dont matter in the industry as much anymore (unless you are a female) Because somebody like everybody its all of the elements you mentioned, for you 2 that dont like Quinn looks there were 5 girls that called in KMEL when we were on the air just to say how fine he is and how much they loved him like i said for every person that thinks someone is ugly there are people that think differently, like Jay Z I hear bitches all the time say how ugly he is and i see 30,000 talk about what they want to do with him at his shows! Crazy, well i will reply later i have a meeting with HBO about putting my ugly artist on a movie special.

Done Deal CEO, No I am not in the business, I am just taking some classes at community college on music, and yes they are just "MY" thoughts. I have seen Quinn perform on TV only on a local TV show and met him and got an autograph from him Years ago at a local record store. I can tell that your MAD, and that wasn't the point of the post, like I said the post was "MY" thoughts and maybe to get artists and labels to look at themselves compared to the artists and labels that are being picked up by Majors at this time.
As far as the KING comment regarding Too $hort I was basing it on his lenght within the business and also his total record sales.
Thank You for your thoughts and comments, you were the first artist or CEO to respond.

I never said anything about Quinn, looks personally to me have nothing to do with which albums i choose to buy. On an individual basis, i go by talent, which Quinn does have, never doubted that. But some of what 92live had mentioned was correct on a larger scale. Good luck on everything - Peace

Theres good point for everyone that is debating the subject, fact of the matter is that all this is "at the moment" talk & like chuck said it could be a matter of no time (when they get a deal) and then we will see what they do with it, with the right opportunity & a strong commitment to not only make that paper, but do the shit your doing and do it with ultimate quality so that the people FEEL you also.(EM & 50 are good examples).........

Oh yeah, Too $hort is and always will be the KING (My Thoughts)
