Saw somthing in a different forum http://www.49erswebzone.com/forum/thread.php?num=116414

What do ya'll think?

I think we should bring him back. IMO the first year didn't count, last year he didnt play, year before that he was injured, and his 2nd year showed some promise. I think we should give him another shot, with the pay cut of course. I mean dude was IR this year and still on the sidelines trying to help out. I think with Singletary in as coach now, and the way things are looking he might have a chance of learning a system and grow.

Discuss.

If his contract is restructured, and agrees to be a backup to shaun hill, then yes, If something happens to Hill, let him get another shot, hes only 24....

Also to consider, Smith and Hill are the only ones on the roster for next year, honestly, I think Smith could be successful in Linehans Offense.....

Coming out of college, he was a system QB that never ran a pro-style offense. I thought it was a mistake when they drafted him because he doesn't have a great arm and he has small hands for being a 6'4" QB which leads to a lot of fumbles and inaccurate throws. The only thing that was appealing about him was that he's pretty mobile. I'd take him as a backup after restructuring his contract and seeing if we could get a late round pick for him.

THERES ALOT OF THROWS THAT ALEX SMITH CAN'T MAKE THAT JTO CAN, AND JTO SUCKS, ALEX SMITH I THINK JUST DON'T GOT IT I SAY RESTRUCTURE HIS CONTRACT AND TRADE HIM FOR A 6TH ROUND PICK OR SOMETHING
this isnt madden, you dont reconstruct a contract then trade a backup qb to another team for a "cheap" 6th round pick....

it just doesnt happen that way....

why would ANY team trade for alex smith? plenty of qbs on the street right now that have showed the same or more...which would be cheaper and WITHOUT giving a 6th round pick

that being said.....you dont give up on a 1st overall thats only 24...i wouldnt atleast

You give him the O-Line that we had when He showed potential and you give him a Great WR, He's dangerous. We had Gore running over people, finding wholes and scaring the defense. Then you had antonio Bryant, who though may not be the Best WR, had good hands and was a great Deep Pass WR. The Great O-Line, With Gore taking advantage of the O-Line in 06, which opened up the passing game for us, if We had that today it would be a different story.

man i said a year ago Alex Smith to the Cfl in 2009. Theres no way the Niners should waste another season on this guy even if he is decent cuz theres been to many seasons that have gone by trying to establish him and seems like hes gonna forever be fighting that shoulder injury, maybe not but its time for the Niners to part ways with him and maybe he can do something for another team.

If he's willing to restructure his contract then the 49ers should consider it. If the 49ers aren't willing to keep A. Smith as a back up if he's accepts a pay cut then he must be garbage
