South Dakota's Most Prolific Hip Hop Artist Is Back! Night Shield returns to CD shelves this October with his latest album, Loved & Hated. The Sioux Falls MC's 3rd solo LP features 15 brand new tracks and promises to be Night Shield's best album to date! Night Shield will be performing the album’s first single, Broken Dreams, at this years Native American Music Awards on October 6th in New York where he has also been nominated in 2 categories this year, Best Male Artist & Best Hip Hop Recording for his last album, The Total Package, released in December of 2005. The song Broken Dreams has already garnered plenty of radio play across South Dakota and also features the vocals of another South Dakota legend, Jackie Bird. Another single off the new project, “Patron”, is an ode to everyone's favorite tequila while the 3rd installment of the Cruelty series brings together all of South Dakota’s major Hip Hop artists for the first time. “Loved & Hated” features more adult subject matter than previous releases but fans of Night Shield’s more mainstream sound shouldn’t worry, songs like Drunken Madness, What Can I Say & Do Something remind you why he is one of the most mainstream Native Hip Hop acts. This album does reflect a lot of growth in Night Shield as an artist while keeping true to his roots at the same time. Mr. D-Sane handles the majority of the production on “Loved & Hated” with Maniac: The Siouxpernatural, Big Ice & Mobius Suntzu also contributing tracks.
Night Shield, who recently performed at the Sturgis Bike Rally in front of 6000 screaming fans while opening for multi-platinum hip hop superstar, Lil Jon, will be celebrating the new release with a Record Release party October 26th, in Valentine, Nebraska at the Derby Bar with Trey Lane, V The Noble 1, Maniac: The Siouxpernatural, DJ Campain & more scheduled to perform. Night Shield will also be hosting the 4th Annual Playerz Ball in White River, South Dakota with Lawrence Iyotte Jr at The Frontier Bar on October 27th. The Playerz Ball has become one of the most popular hip hop events in South Dakota and has even been covered by PBS in a special episode that was broadcast that featured a special report on Night Shield.
Not only is Night Shield celebrating the release of his new album, "Loved & Hated", but he is also rereleasing the label’s most successful album, Night Shield's debut solo album, Kataztrophik. Kataztrophik will be completely remastered with brand new artwork. Kataztrophik was orginally released in May of 2004 and went on be the labels top selling album to date and has since been dubbed "Rezervation Platinum". “Kataztrophik: The Rezervation Platinum Edition" will also see release in October. The Night Shield Entertainment CEO also recently released the sophmore album from the labels other artist; Maniac: The Siouxpernatural. "Paranormal: The War Within" was released in March of this year and was received with much critical acclaim.
Night Shield’s impact on the South Dakota music scene is undeniable as even DC Comics hit Vertigo title “Scalped”, which takes place on the fictional “Prairie Rose” reservation in South Dakota will even reference Night Shield in October’s issue #10. DC Comics is one of the world’s largest comic book publishers and it’s characters like Superman & Batman have been household names for decades.
