Jason Porter - "Welcome to Porterville" Review (Cappadonna, Okwerdz, DRF, Killa C)
Jason Porter
"Welcome to Porterville"
(14 tracks, Joint Legends)
01. "It's A Circus Out There" - 0:23
Totally sets the tone for the album. Crazy, makes you say "what the fuck?", and is different than anything you'll ever hear. If you were to ever visit the mind of Jason Porter, this is what you'd say. Welcome to Porterville!
02. "Why" - 3:02
Loved the beat and delivery on this track. Jason should rap like this on all his shit. It got me all worked up to fuck shit up.
03. "Coming Down" - 2:47
I swear the things this man thinks of.. crazy. You'll probably get used to seeing me say this on each track. The beat again is awesome.
04. "Thank God I Found Satan" - 1:58
I believe this was originally supposed to be the name of the album, and damnit I think it should've been! Not a very long one, but still dope as fuck. The guitars aren't anything super special but they're still very cool and go to the beat perfectly.
05. "Head Cheese" - 2:18
So I was totally turned off from this song within the first fifteen seconds of the track, but then the first words out of Porter's mouth is "I slit a hooker's throat while she's giving head" and from that point he had my attention.
06. "A Rope & A Shovel" - 2:37
Probably my favorite song on the cd. Love the lyricism and beat. Porter delivers as always. Not much really else to say, just pure awesomness.
07. "The Bogus Brothers" feat. Crooked of Darkroom Familia - 2:00
"Jason Porter is an asshole prick, fuck anything from teens to old fat ass chicks". Crooked isn't too bad either on this track. I have no idea who he was, but he was cool.
08. "Sociopath" - 3:13
Some of the shit he thinks of, I swear. Crazy track. Didn't like it much on the first listen, but it's grown on me. Don't know why I didn't like it the first time.
09. "The Basement Pt. 2" feat. Wolfpac - 2:16
Honestly, didn't like it. Felt the lyrics weren't fast enough, or I just couldn't get into it. Chrous sounded good and on beat, but it felt like a cluster fuck. NOTHING like "The Basement Pt. 1".
10. "Sex Deviant" - 2:29
Bwahahaha this track is awesome just for the chrous. When you hear it, you'll laugh hysterically.
11. "Lousy World" feat. Cappadonna of Wu-Tang Clan & Okwerdz - 4:46
Heard the beat from the sampler and liked it a lot. Great track, top 3.
12. "Fuck Them Hoes" feat. Killa C - 1:30
Not a Killa C fan at all, musically at least. Dude is a cool cat outside of it, I just can't get into his music. Didn't like that this track started with him, but hey save the best for last. And it's not that long of a track either. If you dig Killa C, you'll like it. If you like Jason, it's obvious because you bought the cd.
13. "Couldn't Stand The Pressure" feat. Dead By Wednesday - 3:30
Easily my second favorite track on the cd. Listen and learn. Great lyrics, check. Hard-hitting instrumental, check. Masterpiece, yes.
14. "Unorthodox Killing" - 5:17
Heard the lead-in instrumental and thought Jason went soft. Yeah.. I was wrong. He brings the heat as usual. Very mellow, yet serious track and a great way to end the cd.
...Or is it? Don't wanna ruin the end of the cd, but it surely surprised me. Hearing it REALLY put a smile on my face and gave me a good laugh about it.
OVERALL REVIEW: 8/10
FAVORITE TRACK: "A Rope & A Shovel"
LEAST FAVORITE: "The Basement Pt. 2"
Easily his best work yet. Cd of the year? Not quite.. If you liked his track on Tunnel Runners, pick this up!
