Man... I was choppin it up with Playa Rae recently and he said some cold shit that stuck with me. I believe B-12 covered this topic as well...But Trip. Indy's have been tring to compete with these Majors for years. Some have made money, Most have died tring to get a piece. Universal has made a bold move that i feel alot of Majors will follow in the near future...Price Cutting. Reguardless if they are tring to compete with other Majors this will defenitly effect Indy Labels in the worst way. Why? Because it forces us to compete with them as well. Even if we Indy's took 5$ a unit (which most of us don't) and matched Universal's price cut, Our Budget hasn't got a snow balls chance in hell to compete with theirs as is. Thats like taking 3 dollars out of a broke Mans hands and thats just distribution. What makes that more fucked up...Its a hit or miss that the store will honer that price cut. This could easily result in the demise of the Independent game completely in due time. All I can say is support your local artist reguardless.

what do you suggest? that the majors raise their prices so the indy labels too can prosper. dont get me wrong, I love bay rap and I am sure I spend more money on bay rap than most of the people on here, but you cant knock the majors for lowering prices. what needs to happen is the indy artists need to work harder to put out a product that people want and if at the end of the day you arent making money, you probably arent good enough and maybe you should consider quitinq, or at least think about another way of making a living. If you are good at what you do you WILL be heard and you WILL sell. I might like a lot of bay rappers a lot, but at the same time I realize that I am not necessarily the average music fan. the cats I like might not be that great. people need to stop blaming others for their failures, plain and simple.

BTW, this is not directed at anyone in particular, I am just addressing the side of the fan who buys the music.

bayGIANTS is right on point...

If you are going to go the independent route and try to do well, your shit had better be tight. If you have a quality product and really push it out there, you can in a small sense compete with the majors..

Everybodies on point. Just addressing the issue from an Indy's perspective. I look at it like this. Your local artist break bread from the pocket to make it happen. The overhead on a quality release is rediculous. To a point we tend to dump bread into something that is likely to exceed the get back. Why? I couldn't tell you business wise, I guess for the hope and the luv of the art. Im not bitter at Majors for what they're doing...Thats business. I respect these labels that know the reality of it all and still choose to do it. I will continue to buy Underground reguardless if it costs more or not. Will they?

Most music listeners don't have the same passion to seak the true art form in this underground. The majors know this and keep them feed with plenty of water-downed tracks and enough free hand outs to make it easy. I'll never stop supporting the indies out there that keep it about the music 1st.

no, the industry is all about making money and they are always looking for new artists. believe me, the devote a lot of time and money on this. they might not be right every time but there are people that get paid a lot of money to do nothing but find new talent.

Yeah.....that's what I meant by keeping them feed (in order to keep themselves paid). I guess I didn't really explain that to well.
