I've been wanting a rocket for a long ass time, and now that I am financially stable enough to afford one I really want to get a Yamaha R6. I've ridden dirt bikes and shit but never rode a sport bike. Whenever I tell people I want to get a bike I get one of two responses:

A)That's fuckin' cool, you should get one. You'll love it!
OR
B)You want to crash on a bike and die?

So let me hear it from those that have experience with bikes. I don't want to stunt on the fucking thing, I just want to ride. I'm looking into taking the motorcycle safety course and shit before I buy one. Let's hear it! Thanks!

Enjoy death.

There has been 2 fatal bike wrecks in front of my house due to negligent drivers. That is just in the last 2 months too.

Your not going to kill yourself, most likely someone else will kill you.

Good luck.

You've rode dirt bikes before? You should be good then. I'm sure you'll get used to it.......just don't fucking ride that fast.

Ive rode for about 5 years. If I were you I wouldnt get a newer bike for a first one. You will drop it sooner or later. Fairings can run as much as $700. Take the MSF course it teaches you a lot and you actually get seat time. Dont forget to get gear (jacket, gloves, helmet, ear plugs) at the minimum. Finally, I dont care what you say. Sooner or later you will act like a dumb ass on the motorcycle. Just be aware that these new 600cc bikes can run 10's in the quarter mile and upwards of 125mph.

Dont get into a showoff contest or else you will be wishing you never got the bike. Oh yah also, dont listen to people who say that you should have got xxx brand. 95% of people cant even use a 600cc to half its capability on the street.

Rich bastard.

If you've got a way of contacting Carrots you should ask him what he thinks. His brother impaled himself on the handle bars of a motorcycle. Made for a crazy ass scar all up his stomach. Ask him about some of the conversations he had with the doctors about how riding any motorcycle is a contract with death – not a matter of if, just when.

I'd try and get a used one first, for the same reasons that Sneak mentioned. Honestly, if you insist on getting a 600cc sportsbike as a first bike...I'd go with a Honda...much more ergonomic...easier to ride.

My boy has a 2006 R6...he likes the nimbleness of it...but he says it doesn't feel very stable. I have a GSX-R...and I like it too...but the ride posture is a little too raced out for me...especially when I'm just coastin.

Either way you'll love it. Shit is addiciting.

One thing I will say tho...its almost the end of summer...so the prices haven't really dropped that much yet. Best time to get a bike is in the winter...or even the fall...you'll get a much better deal, because sellers know that business will be approaching its slowest...and will be more willing to work with you.

I bought both of my bikes in January...and got great deals on both of 'em.

Good luck !

I just picked up a Yamaha V-Star 650 Custom...........I wanted a sport bike since...damn.. a long time, untill that is I found out how much the insurance was going to be. I looked at getting a Kawasaki ZZR600, Yamaha FZ6, Suzuki 650svs and the cheapest insurance qoute I got was just over $3,000 a year....so I said fuk that...got me a V-Star custom and my full coverage insurance is $45 a month...lol I'm only a 150 miles into the bike, but even still it moves quick plenty of get up and go for me.

Morebass brought up some good points. The honda 600rr powerband is very smooth as compared to a r6. The r6 you need to be over 10,000 rpms to feel anything. The r6 was made for the track.

I could never get used a gsxr seating. It seems like the tank is very wide and has your legs pretty spread open. The new gsxrs look badass, especially with the tail having the turn signals all integrated.

Oh yah I forgot to say, if you do go pickup a bike. See if there is a OTD (out the door motorsports) where you live. They have some good deals on bikes.
