Yeah I'm getting tired of listining to gangster music all the time. I want to get into more hip hop shit . Any suggestions, I heard some Living Legends stuff and it was pretty cool. I hear alot of people talking about Zion 1 and was thinking of picking up that Hereos in tre City of Dope Cd. I wanna listen to something a little more positive for a change

Pick up "Ressurection" by Common... Reflection Eternal (Talib Kweli and Hi-Tek) "Train of THought" was a dope album... Those 2 albums are pretty positive and stray as far away as possible from gangsta rap, and they're pretty much recognized as hip hop classics... Let me know how that Heroes in the City of Dope album is...

Oh yeah, that Lupe Fiasco album is good... You might like it more than the other 2 albums I suggested...

I too have grown tired of the same ol' same, but to be honest....I've been on a Jacka / Hus kick for about 3 months. I slept on those cats for YEARS, and I'm just startin' to catch up.

Man Beto thats pretty much all I listen to, Jacka deserves to blow up more than anyone in the bay area PERIOD. The Mob Figaz are way tighter than that hyphy bullshit thats getting all the play.

Anyways I heard Murs-Murs rules the world and thought is was pretty cool

Lupe Fiascos pretty cool, i like his little skateboard song

I wanna know where i can get myself some living legends/ mystic journeymen stuff. I like bay area hip hop but its kinda hard to find. I know stores that specialize in selling the more gangster shit but not really hip hop. Do they have this kind of stuff at rasputins and spots like that? I'm not trying to drop 20 bucks on some stuff I don't know much about

I hope you were joking with this shit. Like Beto said with the exception of Hell Rell and maybe 1 of 2 others that's all shit. Sorry if I hurt your feelings.

My personal suggestions:

Aesop Rock (start w/ Labor Days)
Common (Ressurection, Be)
Cunnylynguists (A Piece of Strange)
Edgar Allen Floe (Both albums are tight)
Immortal Technique (Revolutionary vol. 2)
Little Brother (All good pretty much, also check out Big Pooh's solo)
Living Legends (Almost Famous, also check out all Murs solo projects)
MF Doom (Operation Doomsday, Venamous Villain. All are good though)
Mos Def (Black on Both Sides, also his Blackstar project)
Oldominion (All albums are good. Check out Onry Osborn, Sleep, Pale Soul, Nyqwil, Smoke)
The Roots (First four albums, and their last one)

That should get you started

Nah 8FIVE8 is just a negative type guy. Never talks about what he likes...just what he doesn't. Whatever floats his boat I guess though.

If you want some "hip-hop" type albums just search this forum for Jake's posts and you will have dope albums to listen to for days.

yeah...cause im tired of making long ass lists of artists that everybody ignores

would like to think my reference rate is pretty good...most albums i mention get positive feedback afterwards. i usually dont bother mentioning them on here if i dont think they are dope.
