man you trippin, Cakewalk is a good recording software to lay down your tracks (if you know how to use it.) It offers a lot, and its easy to use. Its definately a good tool to learn the basics of recording tracks.

I never worked with this software before, but the "Cubase VST 5.0" is very good. (from what I've heard)

off topic:
Big J: I got that MOTU 828 rec interface a couple of days ago, Its fuckin top notch. It runs hella smooth with the Logic 5. It was a challenge connecting all the equipment to it tho, as you stated. I spent a good 2 -3 hours figuring it out. Anyway, good lookin out homie.

Yeah, You figured it out faster than I did. I felt so dumb when I figured out what I was doin' wrong. I was tryin' to record through my AKG C3000B with a 1/4" Cable instead of the XLR. I was so Stupid to not notice that in order to use phantom power on Inputs 1 and 2 you have to use XLR cables.

Glad you like that shit though, MOTU has recieved a few awards for it.

I do all my beats and recording in Cubase. It's hard to beat the VST Instruments for value, variety, and quality. Cakewalk is not bad, but I find Cubase to be a notch up. I couldn't imagine trying to sequence on a little screen like a triton or mpc.

^ for real, Cubase makes it so easier to sequence. BUt Sumtimes itz hard to fuck with too many VST Instrumens because of all the processing power they take up

I use Cakewalk Sonar, and get good results with it. I almost switched to Logic or Cubase a while back because of all the VST plug-ins, synths, etc. but stuck with Cakewalk because I know it inside out, and can get everything I need out of it.
