Do good music is what it takes to get records sales. 2pac has the most record sales of any rapper why its becuase people likes his music. Do live shows concerts and toss out tapes in the crowd. Maybe see if its possible to do rap concert with some artists you like. In order to get recognized is totally on your music. I dont hear a good album and say to my self with all this overcrowding in the game I shouldn't buy this CD. I dont know what you want people to tell you but good music is the key to success. I dont know just some random thoughts.

Definitly price is a major factor.

If an album is half decent, I'll swoop it up if it is a bargain. Once I buy an artist, even if I didn't particularly get into it, I'll probably get the next album as well, just coz I got the first.

Just some random thoughts.

Price has nothing to do with it for me. Always hold your music projects to the highest standards you are capable of. Never half-step when it comes to your music. Stay away from fake ass styles like rappin about bling bling and riches and shit you don't have. Rap about stuff that affects you and listeners can relate to.

i mean it all comes down to quality and good music. if the music is good i'll buy, if its not then i won't. but at the same time us new artists need to really push our shit extra hard, because i know alotta heated artists out there wit great albums, but they dont promote it. they just put it in some stores on consignment, and expect it to sell itself.

Wrong. Beastie Boys are still #1, not Tupac.

Now...i buy albums because of price. Ill recommend something based on other criteria, but as far as my own collection, show me a good price and i'm there. Really isn't much to it.

i'm a fan, period, and that includes buying the 2nd and 3rd and 4th albums of someone who made a terrible 1st impression on me, just because i want to hear how they can improve.

Tadou Ur not always Right I was just watching a Doc MTV just did on the new 2pac movie and pac has sold 35+ million and the besatie boys sold 21 million....so dont be so quick to jump to answers

I'm curious what is a good price to sell for a hot indi album in the street? What would you pay?? ($5...$8...$10)??

I think the music needs to be quality and a good word of mouth needs to circulate.. be the motherfucker at all the functions showing people a good time and doing something to make your performance try and stand out. If you are just another regular person with the same shit, it probably won't work, but if word gets out that you are unique in a way and that your music is good and you're doing shows, that's all you can bet for your album to be successful. Hope some of this helped... I wanna hear more too...

Cipherminds,

It's hard to try an explain but for me personally I just gotta somehow hear your music first. All the print promoting in the world won't get me to buy a cd without hearing a track first....we get too much of that thrown at us as is. I think Game Warden did a good job in just sending out free CD-R's with a couple tracks to whoever was willing to check'em out.....if it's got that bay sound I'm looking for I make an effort to support it. Say you get 100 replies.....100 CD-R's w/ shipping probably run around $100 and 6-7 hours of your time. If it's somethin we can believe in that will spread fast.
Another way I pick-up on artists are off comps & features.......if their track stands out or their flows catch my ear, I try to keep an eye out for that artist. Also, if the unbiased folks on here I trust speak highly enough on an album I'll give it a try myself.
I know tactics for this are probably hit or miss but this is what works on me.
