CHICAGO -- Scott Skiles was fired Monday as coach of the Chicago Bulls, who have one of the worst records in the Eastern Conference.

The underachieving Bulls (9-16) have lost three of their last four and were booed throughout by the home crowd during Saturday night's 116-98 loss to the Houston Rockets.

"This was a difficult decision to make, but one that was necessary at this time," Bulls general manager John Paxson said in a release. "Scott helped us in many ways during his time with the Bulls; most importantly, he helped this franchise get back to respectability. I am appreciative of his hard work and the imprint that he left on our team."

The Bulls didn't immediately announce a replacement for Skiles, who went 165-172 after replacing Bill Cartwright in November 2003.

Chicago is in a familiar spot with this season's slow start.

The Bulls dropped their first nine in 2004-05 and were 4-15 before going on a surge that led to 47 wins and their first playoff appearance since the Michael Jordan era. They needed a late surge the next season to make it to the playoffs, winning 12 of their final 14 regular-season games to finish with 41 wins.

And with high expectations following the arrival of Ben Wallace, the Bulls promptly dropped nine of their first 12 last season before turning things around. They wound up with 49 wins and swept Miami to capture a playoff series, then lost in six games to Detroit in the second round.

There were no major acquisitions in the offseason. Instead, the most notable moves were the ones the Bulls did not make -- contract extensions for Ben Gordon and Luol Deng and a blockbuster trade for Kobe Bryant.

Damn Merry Xmas Scott Skiles, getting fired on Christmas eve is fucked up!

SEEN THIS ON ESPN. ABOUT DAMN TIME. IF ANYTHING, PAXSON SHOULD GET CUT TOO. I WAS RIDING WITH PAX THINKING HE WAS GONNA MAKE SOME MOVES BUT INSTEAD HAS BEEN DOIN NUTHIN BUT MAKE BAD ASS DECISIONS FOR THE LAST FEW SEASONS WITH NOT GOING THROUGH WITH TRADES, LETTING GO OF CHANDLER, PICKING UP BEN WALLACE, AND NOT GIVING GORDON AND DENG EXTENSIONS . WE GOTTA MAKE A TRADE INVOLVING BEN WALLACE. HIS VALUE COMPARED TO WUT HES MAKING IS WAY OFF SO WE WOULD HAVE TO THROW IN SOME BAIT LIKE BEN GORDON AND THOMAS OR SOMEBODY ELSE TO GET A STAR PLAYER. PROBLEM IS WHO THE HELL WOULD TAKE ON BIG BENS CONTRACT

ALOT. I THINK ITS MOSTLY MENTAL THOUGH. I KNOW WE GOT SQUAD BUT WE GOT 3 PLAYERS AND ALL 3 ARE STARTERS WHO IS HAVING CAREER LOW STATS THIS SEASON. HINRICH ISNT DOING AS GOOD AS HE WAS AND IM GUESSING ITS CUZ HE WAS WORKING FOR A PAY RAISE WHICH HE GOT FROM 3 TO 11 MILLION SO NOW HE CAN SLACK OFF. GORDON AN DENG DIDNT GET EXTENSIONS AND I THINK THEY FELT DISRESPECTED. COACHING WAS A BIG PART TOO. SCOTT SKILES MAKES DUMB DECISIONS AND IM GLAD HES FIRED. I DONT THINK I WOULD WANT VAN GUNDY AS OUR COACH BUT WHO KNOWS. HE HAS EXPERIENCE

They were given contracts, that probably would've overpaid them.

Deng isnt worth 10 million a year and Gordon isnt either.

Some team will probably pay them that but the Bulls were smart and didnt overpay for them.

NO, YOUR WRONG. THEY DID NOT COME TO AN AGREEMENT SO NO, THEY DID NOT GET EXTENSIONS. BEFORE U TRY TO SAY SUMTHIN, MAKE SURE U KNOW WUT U SAYIN. DENG IS WORTH 10 MILLION. YOUR DUMB IF U THINK OTHERWISE. IM A BULLS FAN BUT IM NOT BEING BIAS. EVERYTIME WE WERE IN TRADE TALKS, THE MAIN PIECE THE OTHER TEAM WANTED WAS DENG. HE IS THE REASON WHY THE KOBE BRYANT TRADE DIDNT GO DOWN. HINRICH JUST GOT HIS RAISE AND IS GETTING PAID 11 MILLION. DENG > HINRICH

Can you read? Where did it say that they agreed?

They were both offered extensions (when you said that they werent offered anything to begin with) and both rejected it.

Read first.

DENG IS WORTH 10 MILLION. YOUR DUMB IF U THINK OTHERWISE. IM A BULLS FAN BUT IM NOT BEING BIAS.
Is Deng worth 17% worth of the salary cap? Ben Wallace is already taking up 25%, so signing Deng to what he whats (12-15 a year) is going to take up 50% of the cap between him and Wallace. Added what you just said with Hinrich's contract (19%), add that with Wallace's contract (25%) and Deng's contract (17%) and thats 61% of your cap. Thats without Gordon or Thomas added in.

So signing those two players at anymore then 10 million a year is going to put them in financial trouble. They arent worth it enough to put them in that situation right now, espically since they going to go deep into the playoffs with this team.

EVERYTIME WE WERE IN TRADE TALKS, THE MAIN PIECE THE OTHER TEAM WANTED WAS DENG. HE IS THE REASON WHY THE KOBE BRYANT TRADE DIDNT GO DOWN.
Thats because Thomas isnt going to be moved, so what is left after him? Deng. If you think Deng is good because he might've been traded for Kobe, Im sorry but your wrong. Bynum has more to do with the Lakers wanting Deng more then anything else.

This is before the extension rejection. The Bulls might've done it before they knew he wasnt going to sign.

HINRICH JUST GOT HIS RAISE AND IS GETTING PAID 11 MILLION. DENG > HINRICH
So because one player is overpaid, then the rest of the team needs to be overpaid?

WHEN DID I SAY THEY WERENT OFFERED? I SAID THEY WERENT GIVIN EXTENSIONS AS IN NUTHING WAS AGREED SO THEY DIDNT GET EXTENSIONS. I DIDNT SAY THEY WERENT GIVIN OFFERS. READ FIRST

JUST LIKE I SAID ABOUT PAXSON, THE WALLACE MOVE WAS A MISTAKE. JUST CUZ WALLACE IS TAKING UP SPACE, DOES NOT MEAN DENG ISNT WORTH 10 LIKE U SAID. READ FIRST

THOMAS WAS NEVER SAID TO BE UNTOUCHED. EVEN IF A TRADE AGREED BY BOTH TEAMS WAS SET, KOBE WOULD VETO IT BECAUSE HE WANTS TO PLAY WITH DENG AND HAVING DENG AS THE MAIN PIECE IN A TRADE FOR THE BEST PLAYER IN THE LEAGUE SHOWS HOW FOLKS THINKS HES GOOD AND HOW HE WILL BE IN THE FUTURE. BYNUM HAD NUTHIN TO DO WITH THAT TRADE. LAKERS COULD TRY TO PAIR BYNUM UP WITH DENG ALL THEY WANT BUT THAT DEAL WOULD HAVE NEVER WENT DOWN. CHICAGO WAS SIMPLY JUST NOT GONNA GIVE UP ALL OUR YOUTH AND FUTURE STARS

This is before the extension rejection. The Bulls might've done it before they knew he wasnt going to sign.

So because one player is overpaid, then the rest of the team needs to be overpaid?

I NEVER SAID ANYTHING ABOUT HOW THE MONEY WOULD WORK. U SIMPLY SAID DENG ISNT WORTH 10 MILLION. I SAID HES WORTH 10 MILLION AND EVERY TEAM IN THE LEAGUE WOULD AGREE. JUST STOP NOW. YOUR RETARDED

My Bulls suck right now, Ben Gordon is a piece of shit who can't do anything besides put up bricks. Hinrich was never very good, just decent. We should've kept Aldridge, but I really wanted them to draft Brandon Roy instead of Thomas. If I were the Bulls, I would only keep Deng, Noah, Duhon, maybe Gray and Sefolosha, and get rid of the rest. Hinrich shoots too many jumpers when he should be driving more, and he never was a consistant jump shooter. We never should've let Chandler go like 707Representah said, but I knew this season was over before the 10th game, it wasn't the same team that would bounce back after shitty starts, the look like they are just going through the motions.
