Check... Just got up outta the SUV and now I'm on to a car... (Fucked up economy ya dig) I'm used to SUV's and not cars at all... My problem has always been the sound quality of subs in a trunk and I really never hear any that is anywhere close to sounding good. Maybe because of the "hand me down" factor for speakers that goes on in the city, and the fact that they'd throw speakers in anything here regardless of how poor they sound. With an SUV (98 GMC Jimmy) there was all open space and you could really fine tune the sound and not have to worry about rattling.

I had two 12" Alpine Subs 750-peak watts on a 700 watt amp. Speakers were probably a few years old, the amp was new but now Im starting completely over... Shits all gone... Now I have (1) Power Acoustik 15 inch Subwoofer 2000w... No amp, nor box enclosure and I really dont want a 15 inch sub at all. From what I know, they echoed bad in the truck and I am unsure how a 15 would sound in a car...

(drifting off)
I remember my first set of speakers about 6 years ago when I was 19. Old huh... Do the math! It was the worst shit in the world. I had a 96 Grand Am with some 10"s that had no name on them and an Audio Art amp that couldnt have been no more than 300 watts and you could only hear Bass on the inside of the car. Haaa!

I need some advice dawgssss... I refuse to go to shops here in the town, shits too high. I'd trust Ebay with my dollar before I spend 100+ more in a mom and pops store. I ago in and ask questions, but they talkin' upwards of 8-900 bucks. Nada...

How can I hook up my ride... By the way its a 2001 Malibu.

Yeah... I wanted to get the Solobaric subs but dont know where to pick em up at. I usually install them myself, except the stereo. I am really getting tired of subs, but I cant ride factory anymore because I am used to some thump. I heard Davey Mesners (AP skits) Solobaric Subs and them bitches was rattling the front doors of the studio something serious...

What type of amp? Any suggestions?
Know the price range?

Not bad...

I also know my headunit will be a DVD/CD combo because I have one DVD with about 350 Tech and Strange Music plus another 100 or so other songs stored on it, and I usually listen to them on my portable DVD player when I am at work. So that way, I can roll and listen to any Strange song without changing the CD in my ride...

Sure beats the hell outta buying an I-Pod...

For those of you that didnt know you can do that, if you have a DVD burner on your puter, just store hella tracks on it like I did. Over 500 on a single DVD. Now if you have a DVD reader say in your car or a portable like I do, just pop it in and it'll play just the same, the only difference is you'll have upwards of 500+ songs instead of 17-20 on a CD... Hell you can put pretty much all your favorites and a couple bootleg movies on the DVD too. I have Dont be a menace in south central while drinking your juice in the hood on the DVD too along with the 500+ songs and never take out the Disc... Pirating at its best...

Are you storing those songs as mp3z? I got a durabrand piece of shit head unit that sells for about 70.00 at your local walmart, not the best but definitely not the worst. It plays mp3'z & cd's. No dvd but I can get about 150-200 mp3 tracks on a single cd when they are 128~192 kb/s quality. I would definitely like to see a dvd head unit, especially if you could pump mp3's through the dvd. I mean really, you wouldn't have to change the disc............. ever.

Hit me up on aim at n6swerve

this shit is all I do and I can help ya out a little bit if you want some good input.

there are a TON of small SPL/SQ sub companies that can compete with the big names as JL.

I have a 15" XXX that's waiting to be dropped in my 96' Bonneville.

www.reaudio.com their SE(Dual 4 OHM Voice Coil with 600 Watts RMS) or SX(1000 Dual 2 OHM Voice Coil with 1000 Watts RMS) These subs are nice and affordable for what they bring to the table... get one and put a respectable amp on it such as a mtx and run some 4 AWG wiring and you'll be fuckin set...

it's 1600 watts continuous and looks as follows:

The 15 dwarfs the 12 but it's built very strong and weighs in at around 50 pounds. RE makes quality audio equipment. However there aren't too many dealers and you usually have to call them to order. Their prices will be cheaper than dealer prices though.

I just put some kicker SS components in my doors and they sound unbelievable for 5.25" components...

if any of you need help with your car audio shit I can give you a hand as I said before.

Shit man, no doubt... Im on aim now and Im saving you on there...

Cyrus
Yup, they are all MP3 and play as quick and the same quality. Nothing changed from my puter to the DVD to the player... It loads differently, and its like sifting through a windows folder, but that makes it cooler, you can go down to the song you want before playing it, and selecting it. I practically have "EVERY SINGLE SONG" from my computer plus a movie, and a comedy movie short on this single DVD and I bet by looking at the DVD that I can fit 35-50% more of that on there easy. Its amazing how it works, but its one of those secrets that the FBI obviously doesnt want you to know. But yeah, haha... There are headunits out there that are DVD/CD ready when you buy them, and not neccesarily with a screen, but as long as it can read a DVD, your set. I aint took the CD out once... I mean, for what, theres nothing else to change it to.

If you attempt it, the best thing to do is save tracks by Genre, and Coast before burning to a DVD. I have like, EAST COAST, WEST COAST, MIDWEST, DIRTY SOUTH, ALT., OLD SCHOOL, MOVIES, BEATS ETC... And they are separated in folders just like on your desktop. Makes finding tracks easier... Just select a folder, and then the tracks pop up. Easy...

I agree with Swerve that small companies are the way to go for subs. Another one to check out is Adire Audio. They have several lines of seriously beastly subs for various purposes and budgets. For a Malibu I would recommend the Brahma because it is happiest in a very small box (under 1 sq. ft. for a 12), and like Swerve said, a MTX amp or something similar. and they can take beatings of 1200-1500 Watts. The best thing is that these subs have great sound quality too.

Adire lately has kind of been quiet... I don't know if distrobution has slowed or what the deal is. I went with RE on an impulse buy after waiting 2 months for adire. there is always ascendant too (i think that's the name) but they are having a rough time since they basically used Adire's technology.

As for the sound quality... these are sound quality subs that happen to put up good SPL #'s... makes for a fun time.

well depends if you wanna be in sound comps or if you're just doin' it for your own pleasure.

if it's for sound quality i'd make sure you have a sealed sub box, not ported. get more of a kick with it sealed, rather than a longer throw, i think it sounds better.

i'm sure you know this but never underpower your subs, i wouldn't go with a 15, either 2 10s or 2 12s max. make sure you spend your budget on a good deck, a good deck is the most important part of your system by far.

one thing you want for sure is a high pass and low pass filter on your deck, that way you can pound the shit outta your stock speakers or if you wanna put aftermarkets in there.

not sure if you know all this shit, if you don't then feel free to ask.

all i got in my car is the sony xplod system. 2 10s and a 600w amp in the trunk, sealed box...shit pumps, i don't even use a third of the power it's capable of. it turned out a lot better than i though it would too, i guess it's all personal preference.

but if you wanna spend big, alpine's the way to go. don't go JVC whatever you do.

^^ No offense but...someone who has a Sony XPlod system probably doesn't know what he's talking about..I can speak from experience, since I had one before I knew what I was talking about, too.

Oh and also my next head unit will have a line input so I can plug in my mp3 player and never have to put in another CD again. Unless the sound quality is crappy, that is.

Shit, there obviously is a lot out there... Thanks for yall help.

Cyrus... Yeah, that shit is crazy. I wonder why I've never heard anyone speak on that before. I found that shit out by accident really. My computer had crash a little while back, and my music and movies was all backed up on a DVD-R because of the amount of space available on it. I carried the Disc for a while until I got my puter back from the shop. Usually I carry my portable DVD player to work with me and I grabbed the DVD-R also. Tossed it in... Endless music! ...and a movie... Ha!

Slide... I think I'll go with the smaller companies anyways... Not the smaller mom and pop stores, they be trying to tax you. I went to Xtreme Audio here in KC, and they were trippin... They had high end shit, but I thought Bush worked in there as high as the shit was. Im really fuckin' with EBay right now. I've had luck in the past with EBay plus I'mma save a few bucks that way too.

Deir... I fucked with a ported box for a minute in my Truck, shit was banging... Gave all that shit to my boy that drove a Cutlass and it sounded like a bag of assholes! I guess you gotta factor in the open space, and plus the bass needing to bust out the trunk for that good sound. He'd had to pull the back seat down just to feel the thump........... sad!

Swerve... Man, that BBQ put me to sleep last night... It was like 50 white people and (1) black person... That'd be me... But I was chillin. They had a fucking pet Raccoon dogg. I was out in the country for sho! I'm looking up those companies though. On Yahoo and EBay to see if anyone has tossed something on there.

...oh yeah, I fucks with tweeters too... thats a must!

That shit is very ill.... It's been quite a while since I looked at any of the new car audio stuff availible on the market. My car stereo looks like a quilt.... all patched together. I guess I need to get the 1 gauge power wire ran under my ride going to an array of lightning caps that would allow me to be a rolling concert ... That would be very killer. I found a few of those recievers on crutchfield's site. looks like the cheaper of the availible head units with the 7" screen run about $1500.00. here's a link to that one I was looking at. Has touch screen plays anything you can cram into it from what the specifications say. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-PAdX5EZo41g/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?wm=fp&I=500IVAD310&g=168550

looks like jvc makes a cheaper model with a 3" display that does all that shit http://www.crutchfield.com/S-oF3X1HRbsbM/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=168550&I=257KDAVX1

but this sanyo looks to be dirt doggin em cheap with the 6.5" display http://www.crutchfield.com/S-RpUQ6xQJ7vs/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=168550&I=140T1580DV for only $549.00!!!!!
