Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs. Ryan Bader tapped UFC 119 co-headliner

UFC 119 still needs a headliner, but the night's co-main-event slot soon will be filled.

That co-headliner spot goes to a light-heavyweight bout between contenders Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (19-3 MMA, 2-0 UFC) and Ryan Bader (11-0 MMA, 4-0 UFC).

Sources close to both competitors told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that bout agreements have not been signed but that verbal agreements in are in place.

Although not officially announced, UFC 119 takes place Sept. 25 at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

Nogueira enters the fight with seven consecutive victories, including UFC wins over Luiz Cane (TKO) and Jason Brilz (close and controversial split decision). Nogueira, a former PRIDE fighter who briefly competed for Affliction Entertainment, picked up a "Knockout of the Night" bonus in the Cane fight and a "Fight of the Night" award in the Brilz fight.

He now meets Bader, who's a perfect 4-0 in the UFC, which included "The Ultimate Fighter 8" light-heavyweight championship. Since knocking out Vinny Magalhaes in the show's live finale, the former two-time Division I wrestling All-American has earned decision wins over Carmelo Marrero and Eric Schafer and a KO win over Keith Jardine.

UFC 119, which marks the UFC's Indiana debut, still needs a main-event fight. As MMAjunkie.com recently reported, the UFC approached UFC 116 headliners Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin prior to the fight and said the winner would likely meet Cain Velasquez at UFC 119. However, UFC president Dana White since has confirmed the fight has been pushed back, possibly because UFC 116 winner Lesnar and his wife are expecting a baby in the coming weeks.

After some reports about a possible bout between Rogerio Minotouro Nogueira and Ryan Bader at UFC 119, on September 25, TATAME called Luis Carlos Dorea, Boxing coach of the light heavyweight fighter, and he commented the rumor. “We heard about this too, but nothing is signed yet. It’s just a rumor by now”, Dorea said, revealing that Rogerio’s twin brother, the former UFC and Pride heavyweight champion Rodrigo Minotauro, is expected to return to the octagon in the same card. “It’s almost set that he’ll do the main event, but nothing is signed yet. Maybe he’ll face Frank Mir, a fight that Rodrigo wants a lot”, completed. Stay tuned on TATAME.com for more news on the Nogueira brothers.

Frank Mir vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira II headlines UFC 119 in Indianapolis

A rematch between heavyweights Frank Mir (13-5 MMA, 11-5 UFC) and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (32-6-1 MMA, 3-2 UFC) headlines September's UFC 119 event.

UFC president Dana White today confirmed the fight with MMAFighting.com, and MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) has confirmed the booking with a source close to one of the fighters.

An official announcement of the fight and event is expected as soon as this week.

UFC 119 takes place Sept. 25 at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

Nogueira vs. Mir II, of course, wasn't the first choice for the UFC 119 headliner. As MMAjunkie.com first reported, UFC officials planned to have UFC 116's main-event winner (champ Brock Lesnar and interim champ Shane Carwin) fight top contender Cain Velasquez at UFC 119. However, Lesnar, who earned a second-round submission win, and his wife are expecting the birth of a child in the next few weeks. Additionally, the booking would have required an abbreviated fight camp for the now-undisputed champ, who returned from a yearlong layoff (diverticulitis) for the fight.

Mir, of course, won the first meeting with Nogueira with an impressive second-round knockout at UFC 92 in December 2008. Only after the fight did we learn that Nogueira was slowed by staph-infection recovery and a knee injury. Still, Nogueira praised his opponent's performance and said he was surprised by Mir's noticeably improved striking skills.

Mir is just 1-2 since that big win, which marked Nogueira's first stoppage loss, with knockout losses to Lesnar and Carwin and a submission win over Cheick Kongo. The Carwin loss, which came at UFC 111 in March with an interim title on the line, marks his most recent outing.

Nogueira, meanwhile, also is coming off a loss. In February, he was stunned by a first-round knockout at the hands of Velasquez. The former PRIDE star set up the No. 1 contender's bout after earning a decision victory over Randy Couture this past August.

never met Chael Sonnen? lol

Big Nog's like my 5th favorite heavyweight, but I will still root for him over anyone because he's that fucking awesome of a fighter/person.
Everyone always says the staph excuse was bullshit when Mir fucked him up, but his knee was wrecked as well and if you go back and watch the fight he couldn't move at all because of it and basically just stood in one spot getting pelted. Hopefully this time is different because I can't watch him lose to Murr again.

UFC 119 official for Sept. 25 in Indianapolis, Mir vs. Nogueira II headlines

As expected the Ultimate Fighting Championship makes its Indiana debut on Sept. 25 when Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis hosts UFC 119.

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) first reported the event details in June, and UFC executives today made the pay-per-view event official.

As previously reported, Frank Mir (13-5 MMA, 11-5 UFC) rematches fellow ex-heavyweight champ Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (32-6-1 MMA, 3-2 UFC) in the night's main event.

Other officially announced main-card bouts include light-heavyweight contenders Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (19-3 MMA, 2-0 UFC) vs. Ryan Bader (11-0 MMA, 4-0 UFC) and Indianapolis' Chris Lytle (29-17-5 MMA, 8-9 UFC) vs. ex-welterweight champ Matt Serra (11-6 MMA, 7-6 UFC).

"Ever since Frank Mir beat Nogueira for the heavyweight title in 2008, 'Minotauro' has asked me for this rematch because he wants to prove that the first fight was a fluke," UFC President Dana White stated. "On Sept. 25, he gets his wish, and I don't think there's any fighter more motivated than he is to even the score.

"As for Frank Mir, he wants to get back in the title picture, and if I know him, he was the first man to knock Nogueira out at UFC 92, and now he'll want to be the first man to make him tap out."

As MMAjunkie.com recently reported, Spike TV will not air a "UFC Prelims" broadcast prior to the night's PPV-televised main card. Other fights expected for the main card but not officially announced include Evan Dunham vs. Sean Sherk and Melvin Guillard vs. Jeremy Stephens.

The latest card includes:

MAIN CARD

* Frank Mir vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira
* Ryan Bader vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
* Chris Lytle vs. Matt Serra
* Evan Dunham vs. Sean Sherk*
* Melvin Guillard vs. Jeremy Stephens*

* Joey Beltran vs. Matt Mitrione*
* T.J. Grant vs. Julio Paulino*

UFC 119 in Indianapolis gets Spike TV "UFC Prelims" special, after all

September's UFC 119 pay-per-view event will get a "UFC Prelims" special, after all.

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) first reported earlier this month that Spike TV and UFC officials planned to skip the one-hour preliminary-card special for UFC 119.

However, a source close to the event said officials since have changed their minds and tapped middleweights C.B. Dollaway vs. Joe Doerksen and heavyweights Joey Beltran vs. Matt Mitrione for the Spike TV broadcast.

An official announcement could come as soon as today.

UFC 119 takes place Sept. 25 at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The event, headlined by a rematch between Frank Mir and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, marks the UFC's first-ever event in the Hoosier State.

Spike TV officials traditionally feature UFC Fight Night regulars and veterans of "The Ultimate Fighter" reality series for the "UFC Prelims" specials. Dollaway was the middleweight runner-up on "TUF 7," and Mitrione, a former NFL player, was a quarterfinalist on "TUF 10."

Dollaway (10-2 MMA, 4-2 UFC) fell short to Amir Sadollah at the TUF 7 Finale, but he submitted would-be finalist Jesse Taylor with a Peruvian-necktie choke in his first post-"TUF" fight. Aside from a submission loss to Tom Lawlor at UFC 100, the former Arizona State All-American wrestler is perfect in the UFC with a 4-0 record. Most recently, he scored a unanimous-decision win over Goran Reljic at UFC 110 in February.

Doerksen (46-12 MMA, 2-5 UFC) earned a third lease on his UFC career when he stepped in on short notice to fight Lawlor at UFC 113 and won via second-round submission. The Canadian, who's earned 33 submissions in his 46 career wins, followed the triumph with a recent first-round TKO victory over Sean Marchand in a regional Canadian promotion to get another shot in the UFC.

Mitrione (2-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC), meanwhile, went 1-1 on "TUF 10" with a victory over former UFC fighter Scott Junk before he was eliminated by James McSweeney in the following round. Since his time on the reality show, he's scored knockout wins over castmates Marcus Jones and Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson in official UFC competition.

His opponent, Beltran (12-3 MMA, 2-0 UFC), goes for his third straight win in the UFC. After topping Houston Alexander in a January 5150 Combat League event, he earned a UFC contract and has since defeated Rolles Gracie (TKO) and Tim Hague (decision). He's now 8-1 with seven knockouts over a busy two-year stretch.

The one-hour "UFC Prelims" specials, which launched in September 2009, have averaged between 1.2 million and 1.7 million viewers per event. More importantly, they help the UFC pull in last-minute PPV buys, which can significantly boost event revenue.
