Ronin is the Japanese word used for Samurai without a master. In this case, the Ronin are outcast specialists of every kind, whose services are available to everyone - for money. Dierdre (undoubtedly from Ireland) hires several Ronin to form a team in order to retrieve an important suitcase from a man who is about to sell it to the Russians. After the mission has been completed successfully, the suitcase immediately gets switched by a member of the team who seems to work into his own pocket. The complex net of everyone tricking everyone begins to surface slowly, and deadly...
The writing felt like it was lacking at times, but who gives a shit. You have America's at the time token badass Bobby De Niro & France's only intimidating star Jean Reno together killing fools with fully's & even a scene with a fucking grenade launcher. Taking that "AMERICA FUCK YEAH!" swag international one time. Great slow paced action film.

One of the coolest movies I've ever seen. I still remember the car chase and gun fights over most movies I've seen.

This is also one of few movies I still watch on VHS.

I had heard this movie was good, and had a great car chase, which was referenced on PlayMakers, so I finally got it and watched it last year. I was kind of disappointed with the car chase. Maybe in 1998 it was good, but after seeing car chase sequences from The Bourne Trilogy, the Italian Job and The Rock, Ronin didn't live up to the hype.
