Jason Richardson, five passengers unhurt after incident

LANSING, Mich. -- An unidentified gunman fired at least three shots into the passenger-side windows of a sport utility vehicle driven by Golden State Warriors player Jason Richardson, police say.

Richardson, who used to star at Michigan State, and five passengers were not hurt during the shooting early Thursday at a Lansing intersection, authorities told The Lansing State Journal for a story Friday.

The shooting took place about 2:30 a.m. Thursday at a stoplight near downtown Lansing, police said. Lansing police Detective Sgt. Noel Garcia said the department is investigating the incident but had no suspects. Witnesses said there were three people in the shooter's car.

"There's really no good leads to go on, unless someone comes forward with more information," Garcia told the State Journal, adding that both vehicles left a Lansing bar when it closed.

Garcia said it appears there was an altercation Wednesday night between people in the two vehicles before the shooting. He said there was no indication of retaliation by anyone in Richardson's vehicle.

Garcia said the weapon used, which didn't appear to be high-powered, might have been a pellet gun. Richardson and other witnesses talked to police after the incident.

Richardson, his agent and other student-athletes in the car did not return phone calls by The Lansing State Journal.

Lansing police were unavailable for further comment Friday morning. A spokesman for Michigan State University told The Associated Press he had no information about the shooting.

Richardson, a forward for the Warriors, recently completed his rookie NBA season after turning pro following two seasons at Michigan State.
