Pacquiao Ready to Cancel Fight Against Cotto?
Posted by A. Shakoor on 08.04.2009

Well, is the fight on or not?

According to numerous sources, Manny Pacquiao was recently ready to call off the November 14th fight against Miguel Cotto. The main cause of Manny's frustration is that although the fight is at a catchweight of 145Ibs, Manny wants Cotto's WBO title to be at stake; which would give Manny a chance at winning a title in a 7th weight class. The crisis was apparently averted when Bob Arum gave assurances that Miguel Cotto would be putting his belt at stake. There has been concern that Cotto has been unwilling to pay the WBO sanctioning fee for the fight, and he wants Manny to come up to 147 if he wants a shot at the belt. Things were reaching such a breaking point that Manny's camp was prepared to start openly seeking out alternate opponents.

Another issue that may put the fight in jeopardy is the matter of the purse split. Pacquiao's lawyer, Franklin Gacal, says that that a 65-35 split in favor of Pacquiao should be the "worst-case scenario" for the pound-for-pound champion, and main attraction.

Yeah, either Cotto will put his WBO strap up, or he will relinquish the title, and the WBO will let Pacquiao fight for the 'vacant' title. Either way, its within the welterweight limits, so the belt will be on the line.

Too much money at stake for this fight not to go down. Not to mention how pissed hella people will be if it doesn't.

Fuck the bullshit, this is a damn good matchup.
