Vic was calling for it at the beginning, but Gary Shaw wouldn't let it happen when Donaire was his fighter. They just waited way too long. Here is another article.

A rematch between WBA interim super flyweight (115 pounds) titlist Nonito Donaire of the Philippines, and, Armenian-born WBC and WBA super flyweight champion Vic Darchinyan (pictured at right), of Austrailia, that was slated to be contested on Aug. 21 "is off," said Darchinyan's promoter, Gary Shaw, moments ago.

Shaw told FanHouse that the negotiations for a return bout against the34-year-old Darchinyan (34-2-1, 27KOs) were taking too long to complete.

"It shouldn't take more than six weeks to try to make a fight between two, 115-pound fighters when you've got Showtime behind you and you already have the site, and it's supposed to be a 50-50 purse split," said Shaw.

"But Darchinyan got tired of waiting around. He's a two-belt champion," said Shaw. "And on Friday, the management of Team Darchinyan sent me an e-mail saying, 'Forget the fight, we're moving on. That fight is out of my mind forever now.'"

Top Rank's Bob Arum, who promotes the 27-year-old Donaire (23-1, 15 knockouts), was reached in the Philippines with seven-time champion, Manny Pacquiao (51-3-2, 38 KOs), where the WBO welterweight (147 pounds) titlist is running for a congressional seat in the Sarangani province.

"We had agree to everything on Friday, my matchmaker, Carl Moretti, and, Shaw, and I was told that everything was finalized and that Darchinyan had signed the contract. They had asked for something and we agreed," said Arum. "And then, the next day, Gary Shaw called us back and said that Darchinyan was not doing the fight, and that he didn't want to go through with the fight."

Asked if he knew why Darchinyan would pull out, Arum said, "Nope. Not at all."

"It's madness. This guy, Darchinyan, was chasing us. And the only thing that he wanted was a rematch with Donaire, etc., etc.," said Arum. "We had been told that he had signed the contract by Gary Shaw. And then, for them to have decided that they didn't want the fight is total craziness."

A southpaw, Darchinyan is coming off of a March 6, lopsided, 12-round unanimous decision victory over Rodrigo Guerrero (13-2-1, nine KOs) at the Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa in Rancho Mirage, Calif.

In victory, Darchinyan improved to 6-1-1, with five knockouts since suffering a July 2007 fifth-round knockout loss to Donaire, ending the 22-year-old, switch-hitting Guerrero's 11-fight winning streak that had included seven knockouts.

In his last bout, on Feb. 13, Donaire impressively flattened 29-year-old Manuel Vargas (26-5-1, 11 KOs) of Jalisco, Mexico, in the third round.

Darchinyan already is scheduled to face Eric Barcelona (51-17-4, 19 KOs) on May 20 at the Leagues Club, Parramatta, New South Wales, Australia, said Shaw, adding, "We called off the Nonito Donaire fight on Monday."

"Darchinyan would like to fight Fernando Montiel, the 118-pound champion; the winner between Yonnhy Perez-Abner Mares; or he would like to fight, very much, the winner between Israel Vazquez and Rafael Marquez," said Shaw.

"Those would be among his first choices. And if none of those work out, then we're going to Russia. But those are the fights that are on top of the list," said Shaw. "Darchinyan didn't run from Donaire, and I don't believe Donaire ran from Darchinyan. It's a question of it shouldn't take six weeks to make a fight like this."
