It looks like an embellished story revolving around the Battle of Los Angeles in 1942. They thought it was the japanese since we had just gone to war but the objects in the sky were untouchable.

The title of the movie being similar to the name of the event in la, and the fact its sci-fi..id assume thats what theyre shootin for.
