By Shaun Campbell: Mind games, promotional hype, or are the fighters simply scared of each other? It seems to be one problem after another for the Pacquiao/Mayweather super-fight proposed to take place on March 13th. The fight has neither been announced or called off yet, but constant obstacles seem to be hindering progress. These two men are the pound of pound kings, so it’s about time they started acting like the champions they really are.

Now this article is not written to “have a go” at Manny Pacquiao or Floyd Mayweather, but it’s about time their promoters get down to business and sign the contract. It’s the fight the public want to see. Bob Arum has already stated that if the contract isn’t signed within the next few days Pacquiao and Roach will look elsewhere.

Are these problems all arranged? Are they planned to add hype to the fight? The first problem was the weight/catch-weight at which each fighter wanted the bout to be at. Freddie Roach apparently wanted the fight at a catch weight and stated if Mayweather comes in over the weight limit (as he did against Marquez) then he would pull Manny out the fight. Team Mayweather wanted it at the welterweight limit of 147 pounds. Finally this dispute was settled.

The next problem was more to do with the promoters rather than the fighter and their team. It is no secret Bob Arum and Floyd Mayweather do not see eye to eye, and Mayweather wanted the venue of the mega bout to be the MGM Grand Las Vegas. Team Pacquiao seemed pretty relaxed stated that they will fight anywhere. But Arum decided that money was more important, and it looked certain that a football stadium in Dallas would host the fight. It is likely that the fight will be held in boxing’s capital city, Las Vegas on the greatest stage, the MGM Grand.

Now. After constant jibes from Floyd Mayweather snr, Paulie Malignaggi and some members of Mayweather’s camp, there is growing speculation about Pacquiao using illegal substances to enhance his performance within training. Yes it is a phenomenal task for a man to move from around 110 pound, all the way up to 147 and carry his power with him, but impossible without the help of steroids? Personally Manny Pacquiao seems like on of the most honest fighters in the sport. So this writer would find it hard to believe he has taken steroids under the guidance of hall of fame trainer, Freddie Roach. Seems to me excuses made up by members of Mayweather entourage, maybe others will disagree. The argument is by most people though is not that Pacquiao shouldn’t be tested, but why shouldn’t every fighter get the same treatment? Surely knowing that drug tests which will monitored will help clean up the sport, which to be fair, has remained fairly clean recently at the top level.

The boxing viewing public will not accept any other fight after being teased with Mayweather vs Pacquiao. If they want PPV sales, the smart choice would be to compromise with each other and get the fight made. I’m not a fan of MMA or UFC, but you have to respect the fighters. The best fight the best. No one is too worried about undefeated records. Ultimate supremacy is all that matters. Maybe boxing can take something from MMA?

I consider Mayweather a major asshole for pulling this stunt, Nevada already has it's drug testing in place. Further, Manny agreed to do additional blood tests that go far beyond the norm and mayweather still wont agree. Manny has agreed to give blood throughout training camp, the day before the fight and immediately following the fight. His only thing is he doesn't want to give blood right before the fight for obvious reasons (which wouldn't matter anyway since he'd be giving blood minutes after the fight is over!).

Floyd is acting like a little bitch and acts like he runs boxing. He is not a commissioner of boxing & he is once again giving the sport a black eye.

I was once a fan of mayweather but I've lost all respect for him. He's a selfish asshole and does not care about boxing as a sport only about himself.

And also, people make a big deal of pacquiao moving up from 106 pounds to 147. Take a look:

Pacquiao turned pro at 16 years old, that's when he weighed 106 pounds.

Floyd Mayweather at age 16 weighed 106 pounds fighting in the amateurs! And he currently fights at 147. So their growth from age 16 to their early 30's has nearly been identical.

I myself see this as a fiasco is what is wrong with boxing these days. There is no regulatory body that speaks out for everybody. Everybody speaks for everybody and different sanctioning bodies have their own rules. It is a small picture of a bigger problem. This fiasco has to take place for the boxing world to clean up its image. This the silver lining to this if there is ever one but whatever happen o that bill mcclain was tryin to pass for boxing I forgot the name of the bill

yes, if there were a single boxing commission that oversees all of boxing a lot of this wouldn't be an issue, but that is besides the point regarding Mayweather vs Pacquiao, as standard drug tests are already in place. MMA goes by these same drug tests when they fight in Nevada as well.

If mayweather cares about boxing and wants to clean up it's image, this is certainly not the way to go about it, not during negotiations of a fight. You do it on your own time, get congress involved, try to pass bills, etc. etc. etc. Floyd is doing this for selfish reasons, he's already admitted in the past he doesn't give a shit about boxing and only cares about money and his "hustle."

Shit like this is the reason why the UFC is so successful.

You fight under the UFC umbrella, there is no negotiating. You're going to fight the best fighters out there...you lose? So what, you come back and fight you're way back to the top.

In boxing, you have this fight for example: The biggest fight in the history of the sport, enough money on the table to make everyone involved happy.

And it isn't getting done.

I'm sure the fight will get made, but as big as this story has gotten, its definitely a bad look for the sport of boxing.

I think thats bs, look what just happened with Fedor, he doesnt want to sign to that cocksucker Dana White i dont blame him so him and Brock will never fight and thats the fight everyone wants to see. I think boxing is better then MMA in that way because any fighter can fight eachother, your never gonna see Strikeforce fighters fighting UFC fighters unless they get out there contract and go to the other.
