if Spiller is available, we need him.

if not then we should grab de-line or secondary

Taylor Mays has size but he isnt that good, Earl Thomas looks real nice but he is smaller than Mays. despite his smaller size, i like Earl Thomas.

we need combine results to sort thru all the other options.

there is no way berry will drop to us, spiller is a chance that we should be hopeful for. berry will most likely be picked top 5 but wont drop passed 7.

taylor mays will be a beast at the nfl level! fuck a 40 speed!
maybe but he needs work. his football IQ isnt that high, he takes bad lines and beats himself at times. especially if doesnt have a good amount of space to see better, his vision is limited.

he kinda reminds me of laron landry, good size/strength/hit power but not very high awareness, recognition, coverage.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The San Francisco 49ers have tendered contract offers to linebacker Ahmad Brooks(notes) and offensive lineman David Baas(notes).

The move Monday gives San Francisco the right to match any offer sheet the restricted free agents sign with another team or receive a second-round draft pick as compensation.

Brooks had a career-high six sacks last season and tied a franchise record for forced fumbles by a linebacker with four. Brooks was a third-round pick by Cincinnati in 2006 and joined the Niners in 2008.

Baas was a second-round pick by San Francisco in 2005. He has appeared in 76 career games with 38 starts.

EXCITED TO SEE BROOKS TAKE SOME HEADS OFF THIS NEXT YEAR

lookin forward to brooks beastin, baas is solid too. i think our o-line can be improved with coaching alone, i hope our new coaches are the ones that can do it.

a lil more detail on the tendered offers to Brooks and Baas:

The 49ers have extended a low tender to restricted free agent LG David Baas.
San Francisco clearly doesn't think too highly of Baas, who was originally a second-round pick. Per new CBA rules, he'd only cost another team a third-round pick to sign away. Baas started all 16 games for the Niners last year.

The 49ers have extended a second-round restricted free agent tender to OLB Ahmad Brooks.
Brooks, 26, has finally found his niche as a situational pass rusher. He excelled while replacing Manny Lawson on third downs down the stretch last season, racking up five sacks in San Francisco's final five games. The 49ers may add competition, but that's the role Brooks is ticketed for currently.

AND

The 49ers will not tender DB Marcus Hudson, making him an unrestricted free agent.
Hudson would've made just over $1 million with the lowest possible tender, but the 49ers didn't deem him worthy as mostly a non-factor on defense. Hudson offers special teams value, though, and should get some interest.

I don't really like Baas, he just hasn't put up like he was expected to for being a 2nd RD pick. I guess its good for insurance until we get someone to replace him. Brooks might turn out to be okay but I wouldn't get my hopes up, look at Haralson...his numbers didn't go up after his breakout season

Safeties Rk Player School
1 Earl Thomas* Texas
2 Eric Berry* Tennessee
3 Taylor Mays Southern California
4 Chad Jones* LSU
5 Nate Allen Southern Florida

this is Mike Mayocks list of safeties, it was 4 days ago tho, before the end of combine. still i was surprised to see Earl Thomas #1. i think he will be a good player in the nfl, especially if he bulks up some.

49ers beat writer Matt Barrows confirmed that Josh Morgan will start opposite Michael Crabtree in 2010.
Morgan came on toward the end of last season with 28 catches in his final six games, but his upside is limited. He's not utilized as a big-play threat in the Niners' scheme despite excellent size and speed.

Good shit.. Morgan has good speed and the dude is tall too.. they need to urn him into the deep threat and in 1 on 1 situations just give him the jump ball.
