yeah hopkins is 100% right and I'm glad he respects Roy enough to not take advantage of him at this point. Roy's reflexes are completely gone. And even though Hopkins is 4 years older then Roy, Hopkins has always been a technical fighter and a true student of the game, so the fight wouldn't be fair. Without Roy's reflexes that he once had, he's got nothing.

Agreed it really sucks. Solo Boxeo had fights bascially every Friday and they'd televise shows were 4 people were in the audience. They showcased a lot of good fighters and a lot of top guys that I watch now I first saw on Solo Boxeo. This, IMO, is a bigger loss than WNF. If Azteca America and Telemundo shuts down their fights I'm gonna shut down.

.. you get that channel tYc from Argentina? They stay showing local boxing on there .. really dope channel.
Azteca America as far as i know only has fights maybe like once a month or so right? And sometimes they skip WHOLE rounds due to the commercials that they show. and Telemundo has some pretty good fights as well just not as big names as in Solo Boxeo.

and no i dont have the tYc channel but i might check it out though, theres some pretty good argentinian boxers out there

Super lightweight world champion Timothy Bradley Jr. of the United States requested a voluntary defense against the winner of the December 13 fight, which is for the WBO title, between Kendall Holt of the United States and Ricardo Torres of Colombia,. The voluntary defense was approved on two conditions: that it takes place early enough next year so that Bradley can still make his mandatory defense in May or June, and that the fight is for only the WBC title. Number one-ranked Devon Alexander of the United States is the mandatory challenger.
How come Witter didn't have a rematch clause?

Super bantamweight world champion Israel Vazquez of Mexico will be approved, when is medically cleared, to fight number one-ranked Rafael Marquez of Mexico.
Hell yeah, once again its on!

I can't wait for this shit right here...

Yea but when they Azteca does have fights it's usually a pretty decent title fight. The only time I remember them completely skipping rounds was during the Arce/Conception fight. If you have the spanish speaking channels on DirecTV you should have tYc, if not find out because they constantly show fights.

WBO Forcing Paul Williams To Vacate at Welterweight

By Mark Vester

Moving up in weight comes with a price when dealing with the WBO. Paul Williams, the current WBO welterweight champion, moves up to 154-pounds to face Verno Phillips on November 29 for the WBO's interim-title at junior middleweight. Francisco "Paco" Valcarcel, president of the WBO, informed Williams' promoter Dan Goossen that his fighter, pursuant to the WBO rules, would not be allowed to hold WBO titles in both weight divisions.

"Paul would have liked nothing more than to go to ring as a champion for the fight against Williams on November 29, but Francisco Valcarcel indicated to me that he would not be allowed according to their rules," Goossen told Primera Hora. "Nobody deserves to have the WBO welterweight title without first having to fight Williams."

Once Williams officially vacates the title, the WBO will order a fight between their two highest contenders, Miguel Cotto and Michael Jennings of the UK, with the winner becoming the new champion. There is no guarantee that Cotto accepts the fight.

Cotto is already in position for a rematch with WBA welterweight champion Antonio Margarito for next June. Given the economy and the decline of pay-per-view purchases by boxing fans, Cotto will probably need a stronger and more well known opponent for his first fight since losing to Margarito. Cotto's promoter, Bob Arum of Top Rank, would like to match him with former champion Kermit Cintron, who returns on November 15 against Lovemore N'dou.

Oscar De La Hoya Claims To Already Weigh 145-Pounds

By Mark Vester

After fighting at junior middleweight and above since 2001, and struggling to make 150-pounds for the May fight with Steve Forbes, there was a lot of doubt that Oscar De La Hoya would make the welterweight limit of 147 without a serious struggle. De La Hoya, who faces Manny Pacquiao at the welterweight limit on December 6 in Las Vegas, claims to already weigh 145-pounds. Pacquiao, who is moving up by two weight divisions from the lightweight limit of 135-pounds, is said to currently weigh around 151-pounds - six pounds more than De La Hoya.

De La Hoya admits that a month ago he was struggling just to get down to 150-pounds, but everything changed once he started to work hard at his camp in the high altitude location of Big Bear, California. Some of his favorite training activities include late night runs, chopping wood and hitting an old tire with a sledge hammer.

"I was shocked because I feel so strong. About a month ago, I was trying to make 150, 149, and I was feeling weak, was feeling lightheaded," De La Hoya said. "My biggest concern was my power and my speed. Coming down to welterweight has actually enhanced my speed and my punching power. Welterweight is natural for me. Now we just have to maintain for three weeks. No tamales, nothing like that. I even have to skip Thanksgiving. It's a tough life."

Marco Antonio Barrera is in Line For Nate Campbell

By Mark Vester

One of the more interesting happenings during the WBO's annual convention, currently taking place in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, is the appointment of Marco Antonio Barrera to the number-one ranking position in the lightweight ratings. Barrera's promoter Don King petitioned to have Barrera added to the lightweight rankings and several reports note that Barrera was placed in the top spot, which puts him right in line for a title bout with champion Nate Campbell.

Campbell, also holder of the WBA and IBF titles at 135, is set to make a defense of the IBF crown in his next ring appearance against Ali Funeka.

After losing to Manny Pacquiao in their 2007 rematch and announcing his retirement soon afterwards, Barrera would begin making plans for a return a few months later. Barrera would cut his ties with Golden Boy Promotions in the middle-point of this year and sign a deal with King for the sole purpose of landing a fight with Campbell. Barrera wants to become the first Mexican to win titles in four weight divisions, and Campbell has three of those titles.

Campbell's status is unknown and there is no set deadline of when he will return to the ring. He recently filed for bankruptcy, which may have severed his promotional contract with King. The purse bid for his fight with Funeka is coming up, but nobody knows what will happen since the bankruptcy issue is still ongoing. Because Barrera has been placed in the top spot, he is positioned to fight for the vacant title if Campbell chooses to vacate, or he may land an interim-title fight while waiting for a shot. Joan Guzman previously held the number one position, but was unable to make weight for his September bout with Campbell and the fight was canceled. The WBO would still credit Campbell as making his mandatory obligation because he was ready to fight and made weight.

Jaidon's opponent got changed to the even worse William Gill with a record of 8-20-0. They should show the Remillard/Pastrana fight over that IMO. Even though Pastrana's old and shot he can still crack and Remillard's been alright the times that I've seen him.

Thats the thing with Roy, his biggest weapons as a fighter were always his speed and reflexes.

Both of which tend to deteriorate most in aging fighters. Its sad...I remember watching him in the 90's and he literally looked invincible.

The difference with Hopkins, is that his strengths have always been footwork and defense. So he can still compete today, as he doesn't rely on reflexes or speed to win.

Glen Johnson: Open letter to Joe Calzaghe

By Glen Johnson: Dear Joe, Congratulations on your win over Roy Jones last Saturday night. I’m happy to see that you’re finally getting some overdue credit, and now that you’ve accomplished what you wanted to against Jones and Bernard Hopkins, I think it’s time for you and I to settle some unfinished business. I’m sure you remember, but if you don’t, you previously agreed to fight me three times in the past, yet all three times you pulled out of the fight due to injury and we never had the opportunity to give the fans the fight they were all waiting to see..

Well, now is the time to make up for all of that, to finally agree to fight me. You’ve done a lot in your career, but for you to truly cement your legacy, you know we must fight.

I’m well aware that the name Chad Dawson has been tossed around, but I already beat him in the ring and the only people who didn’t know it were the judges who rendered the most controversial decision of 2008. In fact, 80 percent of the viewers watching the fight on Showtime felt that I won. But the fans know, Dawson knows, and you know who won that fight.

So fighting Dawson serves no purpose other than giving him a big payday. To truly prove yourself as the best fighter in the world, pound for pound, fight me, the man who knocked out a prime Roy Jones and beat Antonio Tarver, two accomplishments you can’t claim.

We both know that there is a lot more money for you to make if you fight me.

You know who I am Joe, and my resume speaks for itself. Let’s do this, not only for our legacies, but for the fans.

I have been to England three times. I won the World Title there. Your fans know me, all of England knows me. Nobody knows who Chad Dawson is!

Any time you want, I would love to fight you in Wales. I will be there as soon as you invite me.

Respectfully,

“The Road Warrior” Glen Johnson

I really hope they try to make the Calzaghe-Dawson fight. That would be awesome.
You know who is an idiot? Mikkel Kessler. After losing to Calzaghe, he turned down a fight with Edison Miranda (just before Miranda got KO'd by Abraham), and fought two bums no one has ever heard of except maybe in some remote european village. Then he claims he wants to fight big American names and in America. And then there's this from today:

Mikkel Kessler's promotor Mogens Palle has turned down an offer from HBO for Mikkel Kessler to fight Chad Dawson.

Palle states to danish TV2 that: "Dawson is a cruiserweight squeezing down to 175 lbs and he does not bring enough to the table".

WTF? Idiot!!!

I don't know if I'd blame that all on Kessler. Promoters can be fucking idiots at times and he still drew a decent sized crowd on both his last 2 fights and it was on danish ppv.

.. also I had picked Bika to stop Manfredo (even though it was in the 7th instead of the 3rd) and I was gonna bet the under which was at fucking +300 for u9 1/2 rounds and I couldn't because I was on the phone arguing with DirecTV when the fucking lines got taken off. FUCK YOU DIRECTV.

Yeah I know his promoter is an idiot but if Kessler doesn't realize that soon, or demand more from him, he'll wake up one day past his prime and realizing he wasted his career fighting bums.

Paul Williams, Goossen Respond To Margarito-Mosley

Below is a combined response from Paul "The Punisher" Williams and his promoter, Dan Goossen, with respect to the recent articles on BoxingScene.com by Robert Morales (found here) and Mark Vester (found here) - both of which have to do with the stalled negotiations for a potential January 24 bout between Shane Mosley and Antonio Margarito.

Combined Response From Williams and Goossen

How could Shane or Richard Schaefer chase a fight with the loser of the bout to Paul Williams when Paul Williams is ready, willing and eager to prove, inside the ring, he is the best and toughest fighter at 147, 154 and 160 pounds and will oblige Shane in the first quarter of 2009?

Remember, Antonio Margarito lost to Paul Williams.

Remember, Antonio Margarito turned down $4 Million Dollars to have the opportunity to AVENGE his loss to Williams.

Remember, Bob Arum and Antonio Margarito, to this day, inform anyone who will listen and write about it that Floyd Mayweather turned down $8 Million Dollars to fight Margarito, who Bob was labeling at the time as, "the most avoided and feared fighter" in boxing.

Remember, Goossen Tutor Promotions paid Floyd Mayweather $8,000,001 to fight the linear world champion during this SAME period.

Remember, Floyd Mayweather didn't lose to Antonio Margarito in turning down an offer and the ability to avenge a loss he didn't have against Margarito, such as Margarito has with Williams.

Remember, Antonio Margarito has turned down millions of dollars and the ability to AVENGE his loss to Williams and if he receives anything less than what our offer was at the time, it should be noted EVERY time his name is reported moving toward that bout, as it was for Mayweather.

Remember, I've said many, many times: Shane Mosely has fought everyone and virtually every challenge placed in front of him. He is a true champion, period. At this stage of his career, whether he fought Antonio Margarito or Paul Williams, the stakes are high. But in fighting Williams he's continuing his legacy as a fighter that was willing to fight the fighters that other fighters were unwilling to fight.

Remember, when Shane lost to Vernon Forrest, the NEXT immediate bout he wanted was the rematch, for better or worse. And he made it happen. That is a true barometer of a real champion.

Remember, when Shane Mosely lost to Winky Wright, the NEXT immediate bout he wanted was the rematch, for better or worse. And he made it happen. That is a true barometer of a champion.

Remember, when Antonio Margarito lost to Paul Williams, the NEXT immediate bout, and the NEXT immediate bout and the NEXT immediate bout he didn't make it happen. All Antonio Margarito has done is turn down Millions of Dollars and the chance of AVENGING his loss!

Remember, November 29 at the state-of-the-art Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, two world champions collide when "the most feared man in boxing," Paul Williams fights Verno Phillips on HBO.

Remember, in 2009 "The Punisher" vs. "Sugar Shane" has a very nice little ring to it, at ANY WEIGHT.

Williams needs to worry about his fight with Phillips. Looking ahead and crying that no one wants to fight when he has a fight right in front of him has fucked him before.

.. and knocking on Mosley is bullshit. He doesn't need to fight Margarito or Williams for his name to be remembered .. he does it because of who he is. Mosley is 100% a fighter whether he fights Paul or not.
