I think the difference is Floyd was at 147 the same time Williams was. It was a small window though because Floyd "retired" for a year and a half or so. When Williams beat Margarito, Floyd was fighting Hatton then he retired. Floyd left when the division was really hot - Cotto, Williams and Margarito were all beastin. I said years ago that was my one real gripe with Floyd's resume - that gap, the period he left just so happened to be the point in time when 147 was on fire. Maybe a better question is why didn't Cotto fight Paul Williams.

Pacquiao wasn't even the division when Paul Williams was around.

You should probably do some research before you make such claims. Danny Garcia vs Pacquiao at 140 is being discussed, Roach, Pac, Oscar and Arum have talked about it.

Roach: Danny Garcia is #1 option
Roach: Danny Garcia is my No.1 choice to face Pacquiao

Pacquiao: If no Mayweather, Danny Garcia
Boxing Buzz - Pacquiao Prefers Danny Garcia Over Mayweather Dream

Oscar: Danny Garcia vs Pacquiao is on the table
De La Hoya says Pacquiao-Garcia is on the table - Bad Left Hook

Arum & Oscar interest in Garcia vs Pacquiao
De La Hoya and Arum interested in Danny Garcia vs. Manny Pacquiao fight
I've read ALL your links to the supposed Pacquiao vs Garcia...and I want you to answer these questions...CAREFULLY...because I will refer back to your answer from time to time as to keep our conversation from not straying off topic: 1- What am I supposed to have gained from theses multiple article links that are referencing the same reported source? 2- Can you copy and paste Bob Arum stating that he will make Pacquiao available as opposed to saying, "The fight has some interest for a later date?" 3- Are you intentionally trying to pull the wool over my eyes because of my lack of boxing knowledge, referring to the landscape and politics of the sport? In closing I hope you are RIGHT about this Golden Boy/ Top Rank merger which should be for Manny's 147 lb belt and not Garcia's 140 lb strap OR do a catch weight for both belts (there's that ugly word).

This is what the card is looking like,

Zou Shiming Vs. Kwanpichit OnesongchaiGym - fight is serving as a WBO flyweight eliminator meaning the winner is in line to get whipped by Estrada.

Vasyl Lomachenko Vs. Chonlatarn Piriyapinyo - Chonlatarn is Lomanchenko's mandatory and it's not a bad fight at all. Only time he stepped up he got schooled by Chris John.

Jessie Vargas Vs. Antonio DeMarco - should be a dope fight

Bryan Vasquez Vs. Diego Magdaleno - for the WBA interim title that the WBA somehow allows people to keep defending while there's a champion in place also defending his title at the same time. Either way should be a good fight.

I can see Vazquez Vs. Magdaleno ending up on UniMas later the same night, I doubt they end up airing a 5 fight PPV. Not the greatest of cards, but I like it.

Chris is in a really good position for an upset. Did you guys know Pacquiao is current COACH and PLAYER for a professional basketball ball team in the Philippines? As Coach, he DRAFTED HIMSELF in the first round lol. He's by far the smallest player and not very good compared to the pro's. However, he's such a big star his team is selling out 55,000 seat arena's. So while Chris is training like Rocky preparing for the biggest moment of his life, Pacquiao is off having a jolly good time playing basketball for fun, as well as coaching and running the team and promoting his team. He's not focused at all.

Hes actually pretty awful, he should just be the coach. I saw better highlights of just him on highly questionable but this is the best i could find

Yeah that was from a pre season game you can tell by the empty seats. But his pro debut wasn't any better. Dude is just having fun obviously, no one takes the PBA seriously at all but with Pacquiao playing its bringing in tons of fans. Which is cool and all but not during training camp for a fight!!!

Viktor Postol Pacquiao Algieri Pacquiao vs. Algieri Chris Algieri manny pacquiao freddie roach By Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach says that WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 28 KOs) broke sparring partner Viktor Postol’s nose during a sparring session several days ago.

Postol, an unbeaten light welterweight, is helping Pacquiao get prepared for his November 22nd fight against undefeated Chris Algieri (20-0, 8 KOs) for their fight at the Cotai Arena, Venetian Resort, Macau, in Macau S.A.R., China.

The 5’11” Postol is arguably the best of the three sparring partners that Roach brought over to Macau to help Pacquiao. The other two are Mike Jones and Stan Martyniouk. Pacquiao reportedly hurt Jones already. However, he didn’t hurt him bad enough to where he needed to be sent home so that’s a good thing.

Roach is talking about wanting to bring in another sparring partner to have as a reserve for Pacquiao to have a fresh body there if needed. Postol is still in the Pacquiao camp despite his broken nose.

“Manny broke Postol’s nose three days ago. But Postol’s okay. I train him. He’s a fighter, he’s a tough kid and he’s not going home,” Roach said via http://www.scmp.com.“We know this guy, he [Algieri] should take that as a compliment. I brought in guys who fight just like him [Algieri]. I bring everything, so whatever he [Algieri} brings to the table, we will be ready for him,” said Roach.

Jones, Postol and Martyniouk don’t fight anything like Algieri. They’re all tall like him, but they don’t move a great deal. They jab a lot, but none of them have Algieri’s defensive skills or ability to move around the ring. Roach needed to find someone tall that can move and jab like Algieri, because the guys that are in Pacquiao’s camp right now aren’t similar to Algieri.

It’s lucky for Pacquiao he hasn’t suffered an injury during the camp, but Roach conveniently didn’t bring in any big punchers. That obviously helps a lot.

The sparring from Postol likely isn’t all that good now that he’s got a broken nose slowing him down. I wonder if Roach is making a mistake in keeping him around the camp instead of sending him back home and replacing him with a healthy body

You aren't supposed to go hard against the guy who has a fight coming up. As a sparring partner your job is to give your partner who has the fight, complications by brining a different style or even fighting in a way that you may not normally fight.

Manny shouldn't have been blasting Postol's face either.

Accidents happen, but I really doubt Postol was giving 100% when that happened. Probably half...

you'd be hard pressed to break manny's nose wearing the headgear he wears. But having said that, you'd be dumb not to wear the style he wears at this level of sparring/training. If that's what Postol was wearing and he still broke it, that's actually kinda impressive

I don't fault Cotto for not fighting him. He had just moved up when Margarito fought Williams, then fought Judah then Mosely in his 2 biggest fights. Took an easy fight after a couple of really tough fights on the same card as Margarito to set up their fight together if I remember correctly. By then, Williams had lost to Quintana and was trying to avenge that loss by the time Cotto got his beatdown from Margarito

well that's my point though is when all those guys were beastin Floyd dipped out. A loss here or there doesn't matter, those or excuses. He used excuses like that against Shane, etc, saying they have losses on their records, but of course he had no problem fighting Victor Ortiz, Maidana many others that had losses. He flip flops. Now it's "Amir Khan got Danny Garcia and Lamont Peterson problems" But Maidana had Alexander problems right lol.

I'm just saying that was my one beef with Floyds reign is that he conveniently retired for two years when the welterweight division was on fire.

For me, it's a shame he never got to fight a prime Cotto, a prime Margarito, a prime Williams or even a prime Shane (although with Shane I think he may have had an opportunity to fight him earlier but stepped aside so his boss Oscar could fight him in a super fight, I can't remember the specific situation, something like that).

yeah look at Chad Dawson. It's been confirmed he got knocked out cold by Edison Miranda during sparring for the Ward fight. Of course he fights Ward, gets ko'd then gets ko'd by Stevenson. It could be argued his sparring with Miranda ruined his career.

Pacquiao wasn't even in the division he was at 130 and 135 pounds at the time. He did however fight Cotto when he was champion, obviously a couple years before Floyd and closer to prime if not prime. The Shane fight was a complete waste of time though, I always thought that was a dumb fight, proved nothing just a quick money grab I guess.

you're preachin to the choir man. I'm as critical of Floyd and Manny for this as anyone. A lot of people forget that Floyd tried the flat rate approach with Margarito way before he ever tried that with Manny. He offered him 4 million and wouldn't budge and said that was the reason the fight was never made. Floyd wanted no part of Margarito which shelved Margarito for almost a year if I remember right, so he took that P. Williams fight and was a little rusty against the wrong guy. In a way though, that probably helped him. If he would have mashed on Williams, I think he would have had a nearly impossible time getting a fight even though the Cotto fight was rumored.

Cotto had already got battered by Marg with them steal gloves lol and was supposedly weight drained but whatever. Regardless Im just stating things like you are. How come Manny wont fight Canelo? Floyd fought Canelo? Or how about fight Maidana? He use to fight all of Floyds leftovers, why not continue. Dont say Canelo is to big lol. Got Em!!
