The only time in history that has happened was Ray Leonard and Donny Lalonde. The fight was for Lalonde's light heavy weight strap and a belt at the newly created 168 pound division. Donny weighed 167 pounds and Leonard 165 (wearing a jump suit and over 100 silver dollars in his pockets). It was a great fight, but obviously a huge farce in calling Leonard a light heavyweight champ.

He probably wants Maidana at 150, knowing he would be super slow at that weight. But I heard about that a while back so I think its only the 147 belt since the contract is already signed.

It would have to be at 147 in order for it to be a welterweight fight.

This request is because he wants to be able to defend his 154 pound title as well, without having to fight a 154 pound fighter. As long as he holds that belt at 154 he has obligations there or he'll be stripped, if the WBC allows this farce, then that would count as a 154 title defense, thus freeing him to fight again at 147 after Maidana without ever having to fight at 154.

If Madana wins does Chino become a 2 division champ if Mayweather is "defending" the 154 belt? It's still a gimmick move he should just fight 154 next fight if Khan isn't the choice come May 2015.

If the WBC allows it then yes, Maidana would win both 147 and 154 belts. Just like Ray Leonard won both 168 & 175 pound titles (that was also the WBC, as far as I know the only time It's ever happened and there was a big backlash regarding that at the time and historians still frown upon that to this day, which is kinda sad because it took away from a really great fight).

Mayweather-Maidana 2: Gloves Not Agreed Upon Yet
Click Here To Email Printable version Search BoxingScene Database*

by David P. Greisman

The argument about which gloves Marcos Maidana could and would use for his first fight with Floyd Mayweather brought drama up until the last minute.

Though the rematch is official for Sept. 13, Maidana and his team had been coy about whether the Argentine brawler would be able to use his preferred gloves this time around.

There’s a reason for that.

“To tell you the truth, it hasn’t really been finalized yet,” Maidana told reporters in a conference call on July 14, with Golden Boy Promotions’ Eric Gomez serving as a translator. “As you know, in the first fight, he didn’t allow me to use my gloves. I’m sure that’s going to be the situation again this time.

“I want him to allow me to use my gloves. I want it to be finalized already, the glove situation. I want to be able to use my gloves. For some reason he’s not allowing me to use my gloves. I don’t hit that hard. I don’t hit as hard as Canelo [Alvarez].”

Why, then, would he sign for this fight if the gloves situation had not yet been resolved?

“Because the gloves is not a big issue,” Maidana said. “If I’m going to beat him, I’m going to beat him no matter what gloves I use. I would like to use my gloves. So that’s not the important factor. If I’m going to beat him, I’m going to beat him one way or the other.”

He doesn’t think Mayweather fears him — “When you’re at his level, a great fighter like him, I don’t think you’re afraid. There’s some reason he’s not allowing me to use my gloves, but it doesn’t matter.”

As for the possibility that this is Mayweather playing mind games: “He can do whatever he wants. He’s not going to get into my head. I think he’s just being careful. I think it’s a bit of respect for my power.”

According to Dan Rafael of ESPN.com, Maidana accepted a payment of $1.5 million from Mayweather last time in order to switch gloves from Maidana’s preference to another Everlast product, taking money rather than keeping the gloves he wanted and calling Mayweather’s bluff about whether he’d still fight.

Rafael asked Maidana about this on the call, and Maidana twice denied it.

“It’s just a rumor,” Maidana said, and then was pressed again on it: “No, I didn’t get paid anything.”

Mayweather on Ronda Rousey: I Don’t Know Who 'He' Is

by David P. Greisman

UFC head honcho Dana White is big on Ronda Rousey, the mixed martial arts company’s women’s bantamweight champion. Recently he touched on the topic of how Rousey would do in a battle with the best boxer today, Floyd Mayweather.

“I didn’t start the whole ‘Ronda Rousey could beat Floyd Mayweather’ thing. That didn’t start with me. I just supported it and agreed 100 percent,” White said in a video from MMA Junkie/USA Today. “You take a street fight, Ronda wins that fight and hurts him badly. You don an MMA fight, same result. Boxing match? Floyd Mayweather chews her up.

“It’s hard for guys to wrap their brains around that one. Ronda wouldn’t beat him. She’d hurt him badly. She would hurt him badly,” he said. Later, he added: “You think Floyd Mayweather has ever had his feet kicked out from under him. She walks around at 160, 165. At 165 pounds, all her weight coming down on top of him, on the street, on here [a dais], on the carpet, I don’t give a fuck where it is. She’s going to hurt him badly. I’ve seen her throw big dudes and hurt him. … It’s no disrespect to Floyd. It is what it is. Ronda would whoop a lot of dude’s asses, not just Floyd’s.”

Mayweather spoke with a small group of media members on July 14, and when asked about another boxer as a potential opponent, he replied that “Everyone is trying to hit the lotto and fight Floyd Mayweather.”

Another reporter saw an opening and decided to ask Mayweather: “What about Ronda Rousey?”

“I don’t even know who he is,” Mayweather responded.

The people who think that fail to understand a woman is a woman and a man is a man. Floyd got man hands and she's got a woman's scull. One shot, thats it.

It's funny though to me how hard UFC hypes up Rousey. Why cant she fight Cyborg? Cus she failed a drug test and they wont her in the UFC? But dozens of guys get busted all the time, no problem. Dana White clowns on Cyborg and shit, but we know the reason here - Rousey would get crushed. Dana says Rousey can beat Mayweather, a man, but won't even let her fight an "it". Whatever though let the hype machine keep rollin

Rousey is sick.

Floyd talks about hitting the lotto to fight him, but Lara just got a mill to fight Canelo. That's damn near what Maidana got in the first fight. Honestly, I'm surprised Canelo only got 1.5 to fight Lara though (before ppv #'s are in)
