I'm sure they are trying to make a deal with Stiverne so that Roc Nation can't snatch it. For some reason Stiverne/Don King seem reluctant, I remember King said he wanted Stiverne to fight someone before Wilder. So if they can't reach a deal in the next couple weeks it will obviously be interesting to see what happens Oct 1st.

As for Garcia they could easily avoid this whole situation by fighting Peterson since a unification bout overrides a mandatory defense, which was the damn fight they tried to make us believe would happen next by having that Garcia vs Salka/Peterson vs Santana crap card. But they are so scared to potentially lose a Pacquiao or Mayweather shot they won't even make that fight!

Pacquiao Applies Pressure, Dares Mayweather To Fight

WBO welterweight champion*Manny Pacquiao threw down a fresh challenge to Floyd Mayweather Jr., daring*"Money" to "fight me" instead of setting terms that could torpedo the dream bout.

"He's all talk. Until now he has not yet agreed to fight me. Instead of blabbing, he should face me atop the ring," Pacquiao told AFP in an interview.

Ring fans the world over have been baying for a mega-fight between two of the world's greatest boxers of their generation, but previous talks have always broken down before a deal could be signed.

Pacquiao, 35, has held world titles in eight separate weight divisions.

Mayweather, who scored a lopsided victory over Marcos Maidana in a rematch in Las Vegas on Saturday, pushing his record to 47-0, later denied he was trying to safeguard his unblemished record by avoiding Pacquiao.

However, he said a Pacquiao bout would have to be on his terms.

Pacquiao retorted Thursday that great fighters did not duck facing the best and did not let any challenge pass by.

"I'm tired of his alibis. If he really wants to fight me, he knows how to reach me. We can fight anytime, anywhere," Pacquiao added.

"To me, Maidana won that fight. Mayweather's face and lips were swelling compared to Maidana's unblemished face."

Ahead of his bout in Macau, Pacquiao said he would not underestimate Algieri, 30.

"I'm not taking Algieri lightly. He's taller than me and moves around the ring with savvy. That's why I started my training early," Pacquiao said.

I remember watching Floyd's "doghouse boxing" in the previews before the Maidana fight. And while I love tough oldschool sparring gyms, I was thinking in the back of my head he might catch some heat for it and sure enough. Also had to chuckle a bit when he said "Guys fight to the death. It's not right but it's dog house rules" and yet he constantly preaches "self preservation" and talks about not ending up like Ali.

NSAC Not Happy With Mayweather Gym

The Nevada State Athletic Commission ordered pound-for-pound king and licensed promoter Floyd Mayweather Jr. on Thursday to appear before the five-person panel at its meeting Tuesday to answer questions about unsafe training conditions at his Las Vegas gym.

The commission is concerned about scenes that were broadcast during the second episode of the Showtime "All Access" series that aired in advance of Mayweather's rematch against Marcos Maidana last Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

During the episode -- part of a promotional vehicle for the pay-per-view -- footage aired of amateur boxer Sharif Rahman, one of former heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman's sons, taking a serious beating from amateur Donovan Cameron while Mayweather watched what was supposed to be a sparring session.

Upset that his brother had taken such a vicious beating, Hasim Rahman Jr., Sharif's older brother, challenged Cameron to get into the ring with him.

While members of the gym lined up wagers, they fought for 31 consecutive minutes until Cameron could not go on and Rahman was declared the winner. Mayweather was present, cheering wildly.

During an interview during the episode to discuss what he calls "the dog house," Mayweather said of the intense sessions, "The dog house -- the rules are you fight till whoever quits."

Mayweather later added, smiling, "Guys fight to the death. It's not right but it's dog house rules."

Nobody appeared to show any regard for the health and safety of the boxers, and that concerned the commission.

"On Sunday, I watched the episodes when they were sent to me by another commissioner," NSAC chairman Francisco Aguilar told ESPN.com. "I was watching the part with the sparring sessions. Our main concern is the health and safety of the fighters and not just on fight night, but also in sparring and in training.

"The point of asking him to come to the meeting is not to accuse anyone of anything. We want to get a clarification about what happened on 'All Access.' There were situations in sparring sessions that we need to talk about. One thing is to talk about making sure you have two equally paired fighters and that you're not putting one fighter in danger. The other is the round that went 32 minutes."

Aguilar said Mayweather is under more scrutiny now than he has been because he recently obtained a promoters license for his Mayweather Promotions.

"With the promoters license comes a higher standard of doing business," Aguilar said. "So we want to have a conversation with him. How it goes will determine the direction the commission takes. We could say thank you from coming and remind him of the importance and obligations that come with holding a promoters license or there could be a disciplinary action."

Aguilar said some commissioners were also concerned with a scene in the same "All Access" episode in which Mayweather watched as several girlfriends rolled marijuana joints and smoked them in his house. Mayweather, who did not smoke, encouraged the activity and, at one point, even told an assistant to go to the store to buy more rolling papers because the women had run out.

"There is also the marijuana situation in there, and some commissioners are upset about it. I think that's a minor issue compared to the sparring situation," Aguilar said. "I understand the value of TV and drama, so the marijuana part was not a major concern for me, but is of other commissioners. My priority is the health and safety of the fighters."

Mayweather Says He & Leonard Ellerbe are Heading For Divorce
by Robert Littal | Posted on Wednesday

Ellerbe Mayweather

I have been covering Floyd Mayweather for a long time and I’ve never seen him without Leonard Ellerbe by his side. That is why this surprised me so much.

While speaking to Fight Hype, Mayweather hints that big changes are coming to the Money Team and one of those changes is that Ellerbe won’t be a part of Mayweather Promotions.

Leonard, I think we’re just getting to a point where we’re outgrowing each other. I think I just see things my way and I think he sees things in another way. For example, this time around when I went out and fought, my WBC and WBA titles in both weight classes were on the line and I didn’t approve of that at all. That’s something I didn’t approve of. Also, my daughter was sitting in the front row and her mother wasn’t sitting next to her, so the ticket arrangements were totally wrong. It just got to a point to where everyone wants to do what they want to do instead of communicating and compromising like we used to. We got to this point by us communicating and compromising. If I’m not mistaken, my dad wasn’t able to work [Andrew] Tabiti’s corner, his fighter. My dad, he got all his stuff, the things that he needed for the fight, extremely late. That’s just very unprofessional. There’s just a lot of other things within our team that’s just not right. Leonard wasn’t in my corner, so, you know, it’s not any hard feelings. It’s just people outgrow one another. I’m not mad at him. There’s no hard feeling like I hate the guy; not at all. No hard feelings whatsoever. People just outgrow one another, just like when people get a divorce. They’re no longer on the same page mentally.

It’s just I’m growing in a different direction from everybody else. I’m at a new place in my life and I’m trying to get better. Even though I’m 37, I’m trying to get better and I want to become better and I want my team to become better, and if you’re not on the same page as me, then there’s nothing I can really say or do but say it’s time for you to do your own thing since people may not want to do things the way I want to do things or communicate or compromise.

I just want to be able to communicate with anybody that I work with. Once people start making power moves without communicating with me, then I think it’s time for us to move our separate ways. I mean, I’m glad the fight is over with, but I think when May comes around and you guys see All Access in May, I’ll have a totally new team and probably a totally new staff. We may make a lot of changes in my team, but Al Haymon ain’t going nowhere.

The key part of that is Al Haymon isn’t going anywhere. What people are rightfully speculating is that Richard Schaefer will eventually be the new head of Mayweather Promotions. With Floyd things are always in flux so he can change his mind at any time, so stay tune to see what happens with the Money Team.

Mayweather-Maidana generates $15 million in ticket sales

Mayweather Maidana 2 Mayweather vs. Maidana 2 marcos rene maidana floyd mayweather jr By Chris Williams: Last Saturday night’s clash between WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr (47-0, 26 KOs) and Marcos Maidana (35-5, 31 KOs) was a huge success at the gate with the fight generating a whopping $15 million with 14,859 tickets sold for their fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, according to Dan Rafael.

The final totals in cash generated for the rematch was precisely $14,899,150, making it the 5th highest gate in Las Vegas history.

The pay-per-view totals are still pending, but there’s been a lot of people coming out with guesses for how much made. The reality is no one knows and they’re not going to know until Showtime releases the information. Boxing fans need to sit back and stop believing everything they’re hearing from all the rumors floating around out there in cyberspace.

What you have to know is that with a fight as big a Mayweather-Maidana 2, it’s going to take a considerable amount of time for all the PPV money to be counted up before they get to the final figure. It’s possible we may never know what the grand total is, but that doesn’t mean that it didn’t bring in huge numbers.

With last Saturday’s huge gate for the Mayweather-Maidana 2 fight, Mayweather now finds himself in 4 of the top 5 spots for the largest games in Las Vegas history. The only huge gate where Mayweather wasn’t involved was back in 1999 when Evander Holyfield faced Lennox Lewis in a fight that generated a nice tidy sum of $16,860,300.

That number pales compared to the cash that the Mayweather-Canelo fight brought in last year in September in hauling in $20,003, 150. That’s some good clean cash. The second highest gate ever was the 2007 fight between Mayweather and Oscar De La Hoya. That fight brought in $18,419,200. That fight also holds the record for the highest PPV sales ever at 2.4 million buys.

Rafael Garcia: Before they push me aside, I’m leaving Team Mayweather

rafael garcia Floyd Mayweather floyd mayweather jr By Raj Parmar: Rafael Garcia, the long-time corner man of pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather, has officially announced that he will no longer be a part of Mayweather’s future fights in a corner man capacity. Garcia served as cut-man for Floyd for many years and also was in charge of wrapping Floyd’s hands but is now ready to retire from the sport at 85 years old.

Mayweather himself as well as other members of Floyd’s camp have always been quick to praise Garcia and lauded him as the best cut-man in the game. This past weekend’s fight between Mayweather and Marcos Maidana saw some changes though in the regular procedures for how Floyd prepares for a fight, as Garcia was not the one to wrap Floyd’s hands. Another member of Mayweather’s camp named Bob Ware wrapped Garcia’s hands.

“Yes, it’s true I didn’t tape him, but he hasn’t fired me,” Garcia told ESPNDeportes.com, “I thanked him after the fight because I retired from boxing, but I’m fine with him. Thanks to him I live how I live.”

Floyd had hinted at tension between himself and Garcia earlier in the week due to the fact Garcia wanted to wrap his hands. However Mayweather stated Garcia was working the corner of Mayweather Promotions fighter Mickey Bey and therefore he had to use somebody else to wrap his hands. Floyd went on to state that the way Ware wrapped his hands was the best he has ever felt in his entire career.

Garcia for his part has nothing but praise for Mayweather and is happily ready to step away from the sport at this time. He feels that his role is being reduced in the Mayweather camp and wants to walk away before he becomes totally irrelevant in the camp.

“Floyd told me to go with Mickey Bey for his fight against Miguel Vazquez,” Garcia explained. “When I came back they were already taping him. I didn’t oppose to it, he’s the one fighting, not me, and before they push me aside, I leave and thank him for everything. Maybe I’ll go to the gym and watch him and the others, but I’m all grown up, I want to enjoy life.”

There has been a lot of talk recently of Mayweather rearranging his whole team by the time his next fight in May 2015 rolls around, and Garcia not being the cut-man looks to be the first change.

Hearn predicts Khan won’t get Mayweather fight in May 2015
September 19th, 2014 | Post Comment - 55 Comments

floyd mayweather jr amir khan By Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn is predicting that Amir Khan will come up dry in his hopes for getting a big payday fight against WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr in May of 2015.

If Khan doesn’t get the fight with Mayweather in May, then he’s not going to get a fight against him in September of 2015 either, because Khan has Ramadan at that time. May 2015 is pretty much the end of the line for Khan in terms of him getting a fight against Mayweather. If it doesn’t happen at that time, then there’s next to no chance that Mayweather will bother fighting Khan in 2016 if Mayweather even continues his career. He’s talking about retiring at the end of 2015. As such, it’s either May 2015 or not at all for Khan.

Hearn says he’s been correct in the past in predicting that Khan wouldn’t get a fight against Mayweather in May and September of 2014, and now he’s extending his prediction to May of 2014. Hearn says Khan should just back off in constantly pushing for the Mayweather fight, and instead focus on just looking to get a fight against a guy that he can get a fight against in Hearn’s fighter IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook.

I agree with Hearn about Khan needing to back off completely in pushing for the Mayweather fight because it doesn’t seem to be helping him talking about that fight 24/7. Khan just comes across as way too needy and that has got to be a turnoff.

If Khan would at least show that he could be a good fighter without Mayweather by making a name for himself by beating top guys instead of the 2nd tier old timers that he’s been facing mostly since his loss to Danny Garcia, then maybe Mayweather would want to fight Khan. But for Khan to be yapping day and night about wanting/needing the Mayweather fight, it’s clearly not working for him. At the same time that god awful opposition that Khan has been facing in his last three fights, it’s done absolutely nothing in helping him increase his popularity.

Mayweather likes to fight guys that are well respected and who are facing the best opposition. But with Khan dining on weak opponents over and over and over again, it’s actually working against him in trying to get the Mayweather fight. Yeah, Khan has stopped losing fights, but the way he’s done that by facing weak opposition has hurt his cause.

“I said around a year ago I didn’t think Floyd would fight Amir Khan in May. He didn’t. I also said he wouldn’t fight Amir in September. He didn’t. I’m now saying he won’t fight Amir next May,” Hearn said to the Dailymail.co.uk. “Now, I understand that everyone wants that fight but there also comes a time when you have to stop hanging around and prostituting yourself for a shot.”

Hearn wants Khan to fight Brook next year in an All UK type fight. It’ll probably be the biggest fight if Brook’s career because I don’t see him getting past Khan. Beating Brook would be a good start for Khan if he wants a Mayweather fight. Then all he would need to do is agree to fight Keith Thurman and prove that he can beat him, which I don’t think Khan can and I don’t think he will even try.

“When you have an opportunity to give the British public what they want in a huge all-British clash with Kell Brook for the world title,” Brook said. “If Amir misses the boat and doesn’t get the Mayweather fight he really is in no man’s land in the division.”

I think it’s pretty obvious that Khan is going to continue to be matched up against soft touches until gets either a Mayweather or a Manny Pacquiao fight. I think Khan will be a holding pattern until one of those fights happen or until it’s finally clear to Khan’s adviser Al Haymon that neither of those fights are going to happen.

Tim Bradley to fight on December 13th, Diego Chaves likely opponent
September 18th, 2014 | Post Comment - 33 Comments

Diego Chaves Bradley Chaves Bradley vs. Chaves timothy bradley By Dan Ambrose: Tim Bradley (31-1, 12 KOs) will be fighting in three months on December 13th at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, Nevada. The likely opponent is #10 IBF Diego Chaves (23-2, 19 KOs), who has lost 2 out of his last 3 fights, according to Dan Rafael.

It’s a good opponent for Bradley considering that both fighters are coming off of defeats, and Chaves actually looked a lot better than Bradley did in his recent defeat at the hands of Manny Pacquiao last April. Chaves lost to Brandon Rios last August by a 9th round disqualification in a fight that Chaves was winning at the time referee Vic Drakulitch halted it due to him seeing Chaves throw an elbow.

Chaves had been fouled all night long with head-butts to the face by Rios without the referee taking any points away from Rios. Chaves later said that he felt he was fighting two people in the ring – Rios and the referee at the same time.

Bradley needs to look good in this fight because it’s been a while since he really shined. He defeated Juan Manuel Marquez by a 12 round split decision last year in October in a fight in which Bradley used constant movement. It was a very boring fight to watch for a lot of boxing fans, because Bradley chose not to take any chances whatsoever with the 41-year-old Marquez.

The outcome was controversial because Marquez had gotten the better of Bradley whenever he’d stop moving and would just fight. In Bradley’s performance before that, he’d defeated Ruslan Provodnikov by a close 12 round decision in March of 2013. Provodnikov knocked Bradley down in the 12th round and had him ready to be knocked out. It was a fight where a rematch would have been justified, but instead Bradley moved on with his less than impressive win.

At this point Bradley is going to need to look good against Chaves if he wants to get another shot against Pacquiao so that he can get a chance to win back his WBO welterweight title. It’s pretty obvious that Bradley will be back in the ring with Pacquiao sooner or later since Top Rank promoter Bob Arum doesn’t have many options for Pacquiao to fight. But Bradley can get the rematch with Pacquiao a lot sooner if he shines against Chaves and wins perhaps one more fight in an impressive fashion to warrant him getting a third crack at the 35-year-old Filipino star.

As long as Bradley keeps winning and looking good, which he hasn’t done in a long time, he should keep getting rematches against Pacquiao. Ideally, it would be nice to see Bradley fight some other guys other than Pacquiao like Amir Khan, Floyd Mayweather Jr, Kell Brook, Shawn Porter or Keith Thurman, but that obviously isn’t going to happen due to Bradley fighting for Top Rank.

Bradley would be a much better fighter if he moved back down to 140 where his lack of power isn’t such a handicap for him, but he doesn’t want to fight at 140 because there’s bigger fights for him at 147 against Pacquiao. But once Pacquiao moves down to 140, Bradley might decide on moving back down to follow the money.

Dirrell: Groves will need to come to the U.S if he wants to fight for my title
September 18th, 2014 | Post Comment - 70 Comments
183Share 4 207Share 9Tweet

Groves Rebrasse Groves vs. Rebrasse george groves anthony dirrell By Scott Gilfoid: WBC super middleweight champion Anthony Dirrell still hasn’t come to terms with the fact that he could very well be soon defending his title against George Groves (19-2, 15 KOs), possibly in December of this year if Groves defeats #3 WBC Christopher Rebrasse (22-2-3, 6 KOs) this Saturday night in their WBC super middleweight title eliminator at the Wembley Arena in London, UK.

Dirrell is unhappy that the WBC has given Groves an immediate chance to put himself in line to fight for a world title after consecutive losses to IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch.

Dirrell also doesn’t see how or why the WBC ranked little known Rebrasse so highly by their organization, given that Rebrasse has only beaten one contender during his entire career. Rebrasse kind of came out of nowhere in getting a high top 5 ranking off of a win over Mouhamed Ali Ndiaye last March. Dirrell sees Rebrasse as not being a quality fighter and certainly not being anywhere near good enough to be fighting in an eliminator bout for his WBC super middleweight title.

“There’s no way I’ll be going to the UK,” Dirrell said to the Dailymail.co.uk. “Everyone knows what happens over there. If they make Groves the No.1 contender then he’s going to have to come here and try and beat me, and he won’t do it. He wants to fight with me? He just lost twice to Froch. Tell him he needs to fight someone in the top 10.”

What’s likely to happen on Saturday is Groves will probably KO Rebrasse early in the fight to earn the WBC mandatory spot to fight Dirrell. From there, Groves’ powerhouse promoters at Sauerland Event will likely work hard to get the Groves-Dirrell fight to be staged in the UK. I can see this easily going to purse bids with Sauerland likely out-bidding Golden Boy Promotions to have the fight staged in the UK.

Dirrell would then find himself in a position where he’ll either need to vacate his WBC title, which he obviously isn’t going to do, or stomach the fact that he’s going to need to go to the UK to fight Groves in front of a huge pro-Groves crowd at wherever the fight is staged. On the plus side, Dirrell will get a bigger payday than he would if the fight were to be staged in the United States due to the huge gate from the UK audience.

On the negative side, Dirrell will need to put his faith in the judges and hope that he doesn’t lose a controversial decision like what we saw with his brother Andre Dirrell when he came to the UK in 2009 and lost to Carl Froch by a questionable decision in Nottingham.

Dirrell would have a big advantage over Groves if that fight gets made because with his power, speed and stamina advantage, Dirrell is going to have an excellent chance of knocking Groves out. Groves has already shown to have a shaky chin in his past fights against Froch. All Dirrell would need to do is to keep testing Groves’ chin until he finally drops for the 10 count.

I’d say the chances of Groves getting the fight against Dirrell in the UK are fairly high because Groves’ promoters will likely pay big money to get the fight to take place over there. Dirrell will find himself fighting Groves whether he wants to or not. But it’s really not that big of a deal because with Dirrell’s power, he’ll likely take care of Groves without any problems at some point in the fight.

I don't know who Khan will get. I was thinking he would get Floyd but Floyd today was saying Khan "has Garcia problems" and "the other guy from the UK problems" (he mistakenly thought Prescott was English) and basically said until he gets revenge he's not interested.

I still don't know if Khan is truly with Al Haymon or not or what exact role Haymon plays with Khan. If he is, then yeah he's probably unlikely to fight pacquiao either.

What I want to see is Keith Thurman vs Khan. No reason this fight can't be made. A big knockout over Khan will finally get Thurman a big name on his resume that he really needs.

HBO Head: We Are Excited To Welcome Canelo Back

LOS ANGELES-Golden Boy Promotions Founder Oscar de la Hoya, HBO Sports President Ken Hershman, and superstar boxer Canelo Álvarez today announced a major new agreement to showcase the fan-favorite fighter's matches on HBO Sports.

"For all of my career, I have wanted to fight on HBO for one main reason-I believe it will allow more of my fans to see me in action," said Álvarez (44-1-1, 31KOs). "Today marks a huge milestone for me, and I look forward to a long and successful partnership with HBO."

Álvarez, a light-middleweight knockout artist known for his tremendous punching power, made his pro debut in 2005 at 15-years-old and quickly became one of the most popular prize fighters in the sport. His exciting fighting style and reputation for taking on all comers has captured the attention of fans all around the world.

"Everyone at HBO is excited to welcome back Canelo Álvarez to the HBO family, and we can't wait to re-introduce him to our subscribers," said Ken Hershman, president of HBO Sports. "At only 24-years-old, Canelo has already established himself as one of the boxing world's brightest stars, and we look forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship as we embark on this new chapter together. We are delighted to partner with Oscar de la Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions in presenting Canelo's fights and events on our various platforms."

The award-winning network has a 40-year history of presenting the best fights on television. Canelo has previously fought seven times on HBO platforms in his pro career; three times on the HBO Boxing After Dark series in 2011 against Kermit Cintron, Matthew Hatton and Ryan Rhodes, and four on the HBO Pay-Per-View platform versus Jose Miguel Cotto (2010), Carlos "Tata" Baldomir (2010), Alfonso Gomez (2011) and Sugar Shane Mosley (2012).

"I'm thrilled to be part of this historic agreement between Canelo Álvarez and HBO Sports, an agreement that marks another major step in Golden Boy Promotions' primary goal-to give boxing fans the fights they want to see," said Oscar de la Hoya, founder of Golden Boy Promotions. "Canelo is the best young fighter in the sport, and this move will help line him up to fight top opponents in the sport for many years to come."

A former world champion, Canelo is eager to once again hold a title belt. His record includes victories over some of the best fighters in the light-middleweight division including Austin "No Doubt" Trout, Alfredo "El Perro" Angulo, Sugar Shane Mosley and most recently the dangerous southpaw, Erislandy Lara. Canelo's lone blemish in 46 fights came in September 2013 against Floyd "Money" Mayweather in the highest grossing bout of all time, further cementing Canelo's stature as boxing's next superstar fighter.
