Several advocates are changing their stance on Daniele Watts' incendiary Facebook post: "It's like crying wolf"

Civil rights leaders who initially defended Django Unchained actress Daniele Watts in her dispute with the Los Angeles Police Department are now calling on her to apologize.
Los Angeles Urban Policy Roundtable president Earl Ofari Hutchinson, Project Islamic Hope president Najee Ali and other activists held a press conference Friday, telling reporters that they now have doubts about Watts' side of the story.
"I was one that was very outspoken about it," Hutchinson said about having come to Watts' defense when her story first broke, as quoted by NBC 4. "We take racial profiling very seriously. It's not a play thing. It's not trivial."
Hutchinson wants Watts to apologize to the LAPD. He said that, based on photos taken that show Watts straddling boyfriend Brian James Lucas in a car, he now believes there was "provable cause for the detention." He added about Watts' Facebook post: "It's like crying wolf."
In a statement, Watts responded by saying that she refuses to apologize, according to the Associated Press.
On Sept. 11, Watts posted to Facebook that she was handcuffed by police for "showing affection, fully clothed, in a public place." LAPD Sgt. Jim Parker told The Hollywood Reporter that the actress is making "malicious and false statements."
Watts' reps did not immediately respond to THR's request for comment.

Thirty-two guards with the Florida Department of Corrections were fired Friday afternoon in what union officials were calling a “Friday night massacre.” All were accused of criminal wrongdoing or misconduct in connection with the deaths of inmates at four state prisons.

One of them is Rollin Suttle Austin, the subject of a Miami Herald investigative report coming Sunday. The Herald has published a string of articles alleging brutality and corruption in the prison system.

Eighteen of those fired by Secretary Michael Crews were involved in the death of Matthew Walker at Charlotte Correctional Institution on April 11. Walker, 55, was killed in what the DOC is calling an “inappropriate use of force.”

Five other fired corrections officers from Union Correctional had been accused of using excessive force in the death of inmate Rudolf Rowe on Aug. 16, 2012.

Darren Rainey, a 50-year-old mentally-ill inmate at Dade Correctional, died June 2012. After defecating in his cell and refusing to clean it up, Rainey was locked in a closet-like shower by guards and left being blasted by hot water. When guards found him, chunks of skin were slipping off his body, witnesses told the inspector general’s office.

Over the past several months, the Herald has dug through records involving the suspicious deaths of a variety of state inmates, including Randall Jordan-Aparo, a 27-year-old check forger who died at Franklin Correctional in September 2010.

Records show Austin ordered the gassing of Jordan-Aparo as the inmate pleaded to be taken to the hospital for a blood disorder that had flared up.

He died that night. The initial investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement said the gassing had nothing to do with Jordan-Aparo’s death. Austin remained on the job for three years, until a team of prison system inspectors visited Franklin to look into unrelated wrongdoing and stumbled onto the circumstances behind Jordan-Aparo’s death, calling it a case of “sadistic, retaliatory” behavior by guards.

When they reported their findings to their boss, Inspector General Jeffery Beasley, he allegedly told them he would “have their asses” if they didn’t back off.

Houston fires police, throws out 6,000 tickets

Houston, Texas has just decided to fire four police officers and throw out over 6,000 traffic tickets after learning that the cops were engaged in a ticket-rigging scheme to increase their overtime pay.

Raw Story reports that officers Rudolph Farias, John Garcia, Robert Manzanales and Gregory Rosa were engaged in a scam that saw them pairing in partners, issuing tickets on trumped-up charges, and then listing their partner as a witness to help them appear in court to defend the ticket even though they were not present at the scene. In the process, both partners would increase their working hours and their overtime pay.

“If there’s any perception that these citations may be tainted or someone questions the legitimacy or credibility of those, it is better to dismiss them,” said police chief Charles McClelland. He further described dismissing the 6,150 tickets as “the right thing to do.”

The driver is an idiot. You are operating a vehicle, you are obligated to show your ID. You are at what is known as an "administrative checkpoint." He needs to look into Ingersoll v. Palmer and keep his goddamn mouth shut. And yes he was being detained because that is what the fuck happens at a checkpoint like that.

For everyone reading, do NOT do what this idiot is doing. And then he is talking about exercising his 5th. LOL. FOOL IT APPLIES TO TESTIMONY ON THE STAND. He got away and had a "victory" because the cop was tired of his shit.

He meant the 4th Amendment (meant to protect against unlawful searches and seizures), however, you are correct, the courts have already deemed that the s-o-b-r-i-e-t-y saturation points are lawful- see Michigan Dept. of State Police v. Sitz, 496 U.S. 444 (1990). Illegal narcotic search points are not deemed legal- see City of Indianapolis v. Edmond, 531 U.S. 32 (2000).

I learned at a young age if law enforcement asks for identification, hand it to them and also inform them you would like to exercise the right to remain silent and answer no further questions. Additionally, there are cards that you can hand to the officer that states and asserts exercising your rights and has lines for the officer to fill out his name and badge number as well. These cards are lawful to keep on your person if by chance you are arrested or detained. Many lawyers make these readily available.

And him not knowing what the fuck he is talking about (amendments) and parading like he did is a big thing is part of the problem. If more and more people start doing this shit you will have more and more people being fucked up. I'm not saying to not exercise your rights, I'm saying to be knowledgeable in whatever it is you're doing, know when to do it, etc.

Here is more recent info on checkpoints, SCOTUS, etc.

Disregarding the fact you may run into a cop that is on some bullshit, and may still go upside your head even if you comply, the easiest way to get through the ordeal is to provide them with whatever the fuck they are asking for so you can be on your way. Again, we know a lot of cops (most imho) are on some bullshit and are simply looking for a reason to smack a person with a billy club, flash light or thumper. But if you are going to exercise your rights have full knowledge of those rights.

If it were up to me, every middle school or high school in the country would have a class devoted to that city/states penal code.

49-year-old Lilian Alonzo was shot during a DEA drug raid of her New Hampshire apartment while picking up her infant grandchild last month.

Two bullets were fired, her son, Daniel Nunez said. One went through her arm and lodged in her left rib cage. The other entered an apartment wall. “She went to pick up the baby. They thought she was reaching for something, and they shot her,” Nunez said.

Armed with a search warrant, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration raided the third-floor apartment at 110 Beech St. on Aug. 27, the day authorities broke up a drug ring that involved the transport and sale of large amounts of oxycodone, the New Hampshire Union Leader reports.

According to police statements and court affidavits, police confiscated 1,600 tablets in arrests earlier in the day at other locations, the newspaper says. The investigation has netted nine arrests and the confiscation of $58,000, guns and drugs.

Two of those arrested were Alonzo’s daughters. Neither live with their mother.

No drugs, weapons or large amounts of cash were found during the raid. “They didn’t find anything at all or else my mom would have been arrested,” Nunez said. “Mom had nothing to do with this.”

An internal investigation has been launched by New Hampshire Attorney General Joe Foster.

One of the officer’s weapons discharged,” a spokesperson from Foster’s office initially said after the incident. No other details were given.

Officials say a preliminary report into the shooting might be ready next week.

No charges were pressed against Alonzo, a Police State Daily investigation into current arrest reports show. The affidavit used to justify the raid remains sealed.

Alonzo required 30 stitches but lived. The bullet remains inside her, her son says. Her 10-year-old daughter, and her 4 and 1 1/2 year old grandchildren were present during the raid.

Earlier this week, a Houston police officer shot a man in the abdomen during a “confrontation” in a drug raid in which the DEA also participated in Sugar Land, Texas
