Bradford out for the season with the Rams. AZ has a few injuries. Big bummers for them (hate eo see guys go down in pre season). Not sure what to make of the niners looking so bad (pre season, I agree doe's necessarily mean anything). While Seahawks are looking very sharp.
Biggest loss for AZ is Dockett...thanks goodness.

Last year after the Superbowl I said the scary thing was they did it without reaching their full potential. The offense was pretty vanilla all year. You add a dynamic offense this year? That is scary, real scary to think they could potentially be a better team this year.
I was one of the loudest pundits on here about how their OL play would keep them from greatness. Its hard to imagine they overcame such a huge issue the way they did. This year, i feel better about the OL going in, so i fully agree with you.

I really think its stupid that the roster size is limited to 53.

I mean they bumped practice squad from 8 to 10 but whoopty doo.

Teams should be able to carry as many guys as they want as long as they don't go over the salary cap.

The Seahawks reached the league-mandated 75-man roster limit Tuesday by making moves as well as cuts, and all involved injured players.

Four players were moved to injury lists, including special teams captain Heath Farwell, who sustained what coach Pete Carroll labeled a “severe” groin injury during Friday night’s preseason game against the Chicago Bears.

Also placed on IR were offensive lineman C.J. Davis and defensive back A.J. Jefferson.

Defensive back Eric Pinkins, a sixth-round pick in May’s NFL Draft, was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list.

Three players were waived injured: defensive lineman Michael Brooks, linebacker Horace Miller and wide receiver David Gilreath.

I did not want to see Earl bust a 60 yard return. Really don't want him returning kicks
I understand Earl is pretty athletic, probably the best range for any safety in the league............but why do they have him returning punts, when they have someone as dynamic as Percy?

Percy is coming off an injury...Earl isnt.

If i were to be a betting man, i bet that Walters will be the KOR come the regular season. Pete is smarter than that.

Don't need to use the teams best players on kickoff/punt returns. We don't even want him returning kickoffs. Too much risk of injury. All it takes it one nasty hit and he's out of the game again. Save his legs and energy for offensive plays where he is needed more.

I don't believe earl or percy should be returning punts. Let a third or second string WR do it. Punts are the most violent part of the game and we don't need the yardage that desperately. Its the offenses job to drive the ball down field and special teams only needs to secure the punt and get off the field. I'd be satisfied with fair catching every single punt kicked the entire season. I know a lot of hawks fans are all for it and its an unpopular opinion but I feel its reckless and stupid... and would lose a little respect for pete if he allowed one of our highest paid most impactful players get injured for a few extra yards here and there.

NFL fines Pete Carroll, Seahawks
Chris Mortensen*[ARCHIVE]*ESPN | August 26, 2014

The*Seattle Seahawks*and coach Pete Carroll have been collectively fined more than $300,000, according to sources, and will lose two double practices in 2015 as ruled by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell for violating no-contact rules that govern NFL teams' offseason practices.Carroll's fine was at least $100,000 and the Seahawks were docked over $200,000 while the team will lose at least two minicamp practices next season because it had excessive contact between players during a June 18 practice, per sources. The NFL confirmed the loss of two practices, but said the team will be allowed one practice session on the final day of its minicamp. The Seahawks had been fined an undisclosed amount in 2012 by Goodell for a similar violation under Carroll's supervision and lost their final two organized team activities practices, sources added. The 2011 collective bargaining agreement bans physical contact between players during the offseason.A Seahawks spokesman declined immediate comment, as did a league spokesman.

Lol NFL is on us tough. The "illegal contact" emphasis which is obviously targeting the seahawks, this, its obvious they think we play too hard.

The biggest surprise to me is release of Walters, who returned every punt and kickoff in the season finale and ran back punts like a daredevil all month. He seems to fill three roles with one player, the kind of value that is at a premium on such a highly competitive roster. He lost out to third-year former Ohio University quarterback Phil Bates to be the last of seven wide receivers on the roster. It means — as of now — All-Pro safety Earl Thomas will likely be the primary punt returner Thursday night against Green Bay — that is, if Seattle does not pick up a punt returner from another team by then.

Keeping seven wide receivers (Percy Harvin, Doug Baldwin, Jermaine Kearse, Paul Richardson, Ricardo Lockette, Bates and Kevin Norwood) but only three running backs (Marshawn Lynch, Christine Michael and Robert Turbin) and one fullback (Derrick Coleman) is an indicative of how much more varied outside the Seahawks’ offense will be this season.

It’s obvious how much the Seahawks value Norwood. He hasn’t practiced in a month, yet he’s on the active roster. They sent the rookie fourth-round draft choice to get a bone-spur issue in his foot he’d had since his college days at Alabama operated on this month so they’d have him in September and beyond — not so they’d cut him.

The surprise of the preseason, undrafted rookie Brock Coyle from Montana, has made the Super Bowl champions. His heady play and beyond-his-years leadership running the defense at middle linebacker for the first four weeks of training camp and two exhibition games while Bobby Wagner had a hamstring injury won him a job he wouldn’t have had if Wagner hadn’t gotten hurt. Ten-year veteran Heath Farwell going on season-ending injured reserve earlier this week cemented Coyle’s place on the team.

Bellevue High School graduate Stephen Schilling made the team by impressing veteran offensive-line coach Tom Cable with his versatility playing guard and center this month.

The Seahawks acquired cornerback Marcus Burley from the Indianapolis Colts for a sixth-round draft choice in 2015. Burley was an undrafted free agent in 2013 out of Delaware. He spent last season with the Jacksonville Jaguars , for whom he was active for one game. The 24-year old is 5-10 and 189 pounds, so a smaller option than Seattle’s bigger defensive backs.

As became obvious with how well he played all month, being just plain unblockable at times, O’Brien Schofield won the job at weak-side pass-rush defensive end. That cost 2013 summer star Benson Mayowa his roster spot. I wrote this month*how a Giants team doctor left Schofield feeling scorned — and out of an $8 million, free-agent contract with New York — for failing him over the possibility he may he arthritis in his reconstructed knee. He now begins a veteran-minimum contact of $730,000 for this one Seahawks season. Him officially making him the team today reminded me of what he told me two weeks ago for him this season: “There’s going to be disruption.”

Garry Gilliam, 6 feet 5 and 306 pounds, made the team as a backup offensive tackle as an undrafted rookie out of Penn State. He was more than a tad appreciative.

Gilliam tweeted today at G @garry _Gilliam: “I took the road less traveled, and that has made all the difference. Officially a Seattle Seahawk!! God is so good! #GoHawks”

As a reminder, the term “final” for these regular-season rosters is a misnomer. The Seahawks can claim any player released today off waivers from now until Sunday at 1 p.m. and add them to this roster, after releasing another player.

After 1 p.m. Sunday unclaimed players who are eligible (generally those with fewer than three seasons of NFL service time) could become members of the 10-man practice squad.

Here is the 53-man roster as of right now:

Seattle Seahawks 2014 Roster (expected starters listed first)

Quarterbacks (2): Russell Wilson, Tarvaris Jackson

Running backs (3): Marshawn Lynch, Robert Turbin, Christine Michael

Fullbacks (1): Derrick Coleman

Tight ends (3): Zach Miller, Luke Willson, Cooper Helfet

Offensive line (9): Russell Okung, James Carpenter, Max Unger, J.R. Sweezy, Justin Britt, Stephen Schilling, Lemuel Jeanpierre, Alvin Bailey, Garry Gilliam (R)

Defensive line (9): Michael Bennett, Brandon Mebane, Tony McDaniel, Cliff Avril, Kevin Williams, O’Brien Schofield, Cassius Marsh, Greg Scruggs, Jordan Hill

Cornerbacks (6): Richard Sherman, Byron Maxwell, Jeremy Lane, Marcus Burley, Tharold Simon, DeShawn Shead

Specialists (3): Steven Hauschka, Jon Ryan, Clint Gresham

–Lockette tweeted today that the NFL fined him $22,000 for a helmet-to-helmet hit on a Chicago Bears punt returner who was bent at the waist with his head down in the open field of the Seahawks’ exhibition game two weeks ago:

Shit I hate the 53 man roster. I was definitely hoping for more out of 6'5 Chris Matthews.

Sad to see us lose Mayowa and Winston.
