calling someone a negro is not racist?
Negro = black in latin. And while not necessarily a racist term, its not PC either. Back before nigger became popular, negro was the term used...and it was a "hard" negro. So its still sensitive enough that its considered a slur to this day.

I said that because at one time, black people referred to themselves as negro's. It wouldn't be accepted nowadays. Even the term African American is frowned upon depending where you are. To my understanding, collectively, black people refer to themselves as black.

when I lived in SD a bunch of African dudes lived in the college area and there was almost this huge brawl because some black dudes were making fun of the Africans and telling them to go chase a tiger or elephant or something, and the Africans were calling the blacks, niggers. It was a pretty odd situation. They all got kicked out of the 24 hour fitness and I seriously thought there was going to be a huge fight out there. It was after midnight too. I think the white dudes working at the gym were about to crap their pants.

like i said about the donald sterling deal, at the end of the day its all about the dollar signs, if this redskins deal was affecting the nfls bottom line and image, causing players and fans to boycott, oh trust the name would be changed.

Just watched the video and it was very touching but Im still a Redskins and Indians fan since i was a kid.... not gonna change unless the teams switch it, im very sure when they came out with the team names and mascots they were paying tribute to Native Americans, just my opinion tho.... Even had 3 natives say whats up and chopped it up for a quick minute and didnt even seem one bit bothered about me wearing my gear. Like everything, some are going to find it offensive and others may not!
Just like sambo is paying tribute to black people? It's the same thing, this is a disrespectful caricature paraded to the masses. It was created in a time where it was ok to publicly disrespect those who are not white. Its time to change it.

I understand what your saying and I respect that thanks for lacing me with the story..... But honestly what would some fat rich white get from investing his money and naming his team Redskins and using an Indian chief mascot?! The Redskins were the Boston Braves before changing to the other name since the Braves were taken by a baseball team, so why use it and why keep it for so long? Didnt they finally start bringin it up in court in the early 90s..... Why soooo long to sue or request the name change is what Im trying to figure out! If it changes, it changes I'd welcome the change IF and WHEN it happens.... Cant please everyone and since none of us own the team people opposed will have to keep trying
you asked what would some rich white get from investing his money and naming his team that? that's a ridiculous question, he gets money and lots of it.

they brought it up in the 90s, yes, and they still haven't changed it....do you realize how long it takes for America to change racist policies? don't you know your American history? don't you think a capitalist businessman who is profiting on a racist name and character will not want to change whats making him money?

The name is not being changed because it will take effort & money to create a new one and change the branding on everything and they're too busy defending racism by citing "history".

The name will be changed and sooner than later. The writing is on the wall.

The US Patent Office just canceled all Redskins trademarks. This never happens. Like ever.

The Redskins can still use their name of course but without federal trademark protection, others can use the team's name and logos to sell merchandise with impunity. It will then actually become in their best interests to change their name, or else all the fans can buy Redskins merchandise anywhere and everywhere.

Just read an article in that patent story. The mayor of Washington DC was quoted as saying the team will never get a new stadium in the city until the name is changed.

The President of the United States, The US Senate, the Mayor of the city, and millions of people are saying you're supporting a racist brand and all they keep saying in response is "it honors Native Americans"

holy fuck I hope that moron Dan Snyder loses a ton of fucking money since he lost his patents.

Redskins’ Kike Owner Refuses To Change Team’s Offensive Name

WASHINGTON—Denying widespread claims that the franchise is being offensive or disrespectful, the Washington Redskins’ kike owner announced Monday that he remains steadfast in his refusal to change the team’s derogatory name. “The Redskins represent 81 years of great history and tradition, and it’s a source of pride for our fans,” said the hook-nosed kike, stressing that the team’s insulting moniker is “absolutely not a racial slur by any means.” “‘Washington Redskins’ is much more than just a name. It stands for strength, courage, and respect—the very values that are so intrinsic to Native American culture.” The shifty-eyed hebe went on to assure fans that he will do “everything in his power” to preserve the team’s proud heritage

Yeah, I learned that way back actually cause this dude I went to school with growing up was from Africa (can't remember where) and other black dudes were clowning him talking about wildlife killing his family and stuff which obviously didn't really happen. It's all bad. But a lot of Africans that move here don't associate with black culture in America. It's an interesting topic to me.

I grew up in the hood man, so it didn't seem that bad to me but that was also like 7 years ago so maybe it's gone way down hill since then. Every chick I would bring back to the crib when I lived at G and Broadway in CV thought that was super hood too but I didn't think it was that bad?

lol so this article aims to get him to change the team name by calling him multiple racist terms? This is the world we live in.

some africans feel they respect their own culture more and feel more superior since they come from the motherland. where as some african americans dont even consider themselves to be african bro, and dont care about africa because they wasnt born there. like u said its interesting and sad to me. we all african brothers and sisters at the end of the day. we all share some sort of ancestry whether my ancestors were brought here on a ship or whethere theres remained in africa.
oh man, its gone downhill bro! its just more ghetto.
yeah i stayed on f and woodlawn, stayed in park regency. hella grimy apartments lol

It really is a long topic but I mean, how many blacks in America can even trace their family history back to Africa? So much of that information has been lost and would be really difficult, if not impossible, to track down. So I don't fault blacks in America for not pretending to know a ton about their ancestry when it doesn't matter a lot of them here in America. It sucks, but I can't really blame them for it. In some ways, I think people take way too much pride in their ancestry, regardless of race, but that's a long topic in itself that probably would be best served in the GOM forum.

I'm not surprised if that area is worse. I mean, you had a trailer park, a handful of hotels/motels, around there and a grip of apartments. That's almost always a recipe for disaster. But I never heard gunshots and I used to walk to that poker spot or Roberto's after midnight all the time and never really saw people outside unless it was right there at the Manhattan club.
